Finally! Michelle Obama's gown ...

Bookmark and Share

And what a vision she was in a one-shoulder, white, Grecian-style gown by Jason Wu at the Neighborhood Ball. The gown was peppered in what appeared to be fluffy floral appliques and beading.

I loved that she picked the modern one-shoulder look and didn't cover up as many of the previous First Ladies have at balls.

I also liked that she picked yet another relatively unknown fashion designer for her gown. What a shot in the arm for America's fashion industry! Wu is a 26-year-old rising star (especially after tonight!) who was born in Taiwan and studied at Parsons in New York.

And the new prez looks pretty dapper too in that white bow tie, doesn't he?

In fact, they almost look like newlyweds, yes?

TheFirst Lady

First of all, haters, why can't you give the First Lady her dues.  She makes one totally put together, well dressed, fashion diva.  Mrs Obama has sass, class and an appeal that many will emulate, if they haven't tried already.  We are fortunate to have such a special and beautiful person as our First Lady and role model.  So stop the hate and appreciate the beauty.  She compliments and completes the President flawlessly.  Be Blessed First Family.

I want EVERYONE who calls

I want EVERYONE who calls Michell Obama "fat" or she "looked fat" to come forward and put down not only her weight but her height, bust, waist, and her hips measurment and then lets see who is fat here. Average American woman between 25-45 wears size 8 of GAP, Ann Taylor and Bannana Republic, which measures to size 14 of 20 years ago. An average american women even does not know where her actual, natural waist line is which measures to 30" these days as apppose to 26" 20-30 years ago.

I aso want to know how many of these "fashion gurus" on this blogs was not wearing spandex based garment, flip flop and an empire waist top to cover up her blabber hanging around her low rise jeans?? How many these "fashion gurs" are even wearing the right size bra?

Fat or no fat, Michelle Obama was able to support her husband through the election as the first black president in the history of this country . . . and ALL SOME OF YOU SEE IS THAT "she looked fat in that dress", or " she chose the wrong color". Go get a life everyone. Go pick on Angelina Jolie and Jennifer Lopez . . . Oscars are coming up! LOL

Thank you!

I could not agree more.

Michelle looked GREAT!

I have worked in the high end fashion industry for more than 17 years with well known desingers in person and I have never heared of Mr. Wu. However I think Michelle Obama looked great in that dress! She has big hips and small waist so besides an princess cut dress which would had look BORING on her there was no better choice than the natural waist dress.
There is NOTHING wrong with the white color. White is NOT just for the brides, which only came to fashion after Queen Victoria wore that color. We have departed the "victorian era" long time ago and Michelle Obama certainly does not act like a woman of that period.
She has great toned arms and that one shoulder strap was very flattering on her.
Also her choice of accessories were complimentary to the gown.
However, at the end of the day THAT IS JUST A GOWN, JUST A PIECE OF GARMENT and what it matters is that what is her husband going to do for us as our new leader. What is in Michelle Obama's closet and wardrobe does not interest me but to see how her husband is going to deliver me all the promises he has made.
Everyone chill out!!! She is a "First Lade" not an actress or a vogue model.
Were you all harsh on Laura Bush with those stupid pant suits? or Barbara Bush whom till now I can't tell if is a man or a woman?
Beauty in the eyes of the beholder. NO? Mr. Obama loved her in that dress and that is all Michelle cares for it, not what you and me like on her.

AMEN!

And I'm sorry, but all you guys saying she's fat or has a big butt or whatever obviously have some sort of body dismorphia because that woman has an excellent figure. She's got curves, and in all the right places, and that dress did not make her look "fat." If you think she looks "fat," I'd hate to hear what you think about most average Americans. Every woman isn't some bony, flat-reared stick figure, and thank God for that!

Can you say, "I like big butts & I can not lie?"

What in the hell was she thinking? Couldn't she accept something of any type of flattery. Marc Jacobs was chopping at the bit to do her up like the queen of the ball that she could have been. Not so in my eyes, nor anyone else just wanting to pretend she looks good probably because she is the first black lady. Give me a break, that dress gave her the biggest butt the size of Mount St. Helens! F- all the way. The train dragged, making her look like a total idiot on the dance floor standing there unless she really can't dance. She could have stuck to her usual J-Crew to have a better cut for her rather large bubble butt.

re: Michelle Obama's inauguration gown

While Michelle Obama's inauguration gown was pretty, it wasn't right for her. The gathered waist accentuated her heavy hips, and it was more of a summer party dress for a much younger woman than an inauguration gown. Also, the train was obviously too long for dancing. She looked awkward, always having to pick it up and push it aside.
I would have preferred to see her in a figure-slimming dress in one of those jewel tones that she looks so good in.

First Lady's Dress

I liked the first lady's dress. It was unique and unexpected. She looked gorgeous. What a wonderful day and evening!

Love Mrs. Obama's style

I loved everything about Michelle Obama yesterday. I loved the inaugural dress (although I was concerened for her warmth) and I loved the ball gown. They made such a dashing couple. Her joy and beauty was just radiant.
Let's not forget the kids. I thought Sasha was particularly chic in her red and pink ensemble!

FUGLY toilet paper dress

The gown looks like a bunch of wads of toilet paper was glued onto an old wedding dress. I think the dress would look better on a skinnier person and it probably would look nicer with either a skinnier strap or strapless.

Obama should have wasted more of America's money on a stylist if he was going to spend $150M on himself.

Honestly, Michelle has a pretty great body, so why can't she ever pick something more flattering than clothes from a thrift store?

Style is about finding clothes that fit and look good, not just picking new designers to dress you in clothes that don't suit you.  What's next?  Half shirts in the white house?

What?

I'm sorry, but what are you talking about? "The dress would look better on a skinnier person..." um, really? Because Michelle's pretty skinny. Also, she regularly picks clothes that flatter her shape--that's why everyone's been talking about all her fashion choices, and what she'd wear to the balls. I certainly don't think she picked the dress she did just because wanted to "pick a new designer."

Also, if you want to talk about the one strap style, Nancy Reagan wore something very similar to Reagan's inaugural balls:

Would you say she was going to wear a half shirt in the White House?

Keeping warm

I too LOVED Michelle's white gown. The perfect pick. She does have a great eye for the designers and what looks good for the occasion.
Question: They mentioned she wore "pashmina" to keep her warm during the long cold inauguration events. Did they mean for her legs? I thought pashmina was a scarf. Her legs looked so sleek, but I kept wondering how cold they must have been. Maybe there's a secret leg warmer on the fashion scene.

Y'all are crazy!

This dress was amazing, and Michelle looked amazing in it. She's a young, good-looking woman, and I for one am so glad she chose a dress that reflects that, rather than some dowdy frock that makes her look like a 50-year-old. I think she not only looked sophisticated, but she looked freaking dreamy. It's nice to see a First Lady who's not only youthful and lovely, but also stylish.

Didn't do a thing for me

I'm with the others, if this was the best of what she had to choose from what did the worst look like? At least the style of the one earlier today was sophisticated. Wish she would have chosen a different fabric and color, it reminded me of my grandmothers couch, and it didn't photograph well, I still don't understand the olive shoes and gloves.
But hey at least she's not Jill Biden trying to revert back to her younger days, that poor woman really needs a stylists.

I wasn't feeling the fluffy

I wasn't feeling the fluffy floral appliques and beading.
Anyone else notice that the dress got bigger as the night wore on? Could be she took off her Spanx.

Looked sort of like field

Looked sort of like field dressing.

 "Modern"?  It looks like

"Modern"?  It looks like a debutante's dress!

This is a mature and sophisticated woman, who usually dresses that way.

Why did she choose one of the biggest days of her life to forego looking sleek and sophisticated?
