Christian Siriano Frills

Bookmark and Share

The look was all about femininity at the Christian Siriano show. The “Project Runway” alum’s spring/summer 2011 collection was filled with flowy goddess shapes, flirty ruffles and vibrant prints.

The satin faced organza strapless bubble gown, in an eye-popping turquoise giraffe print, sent cell phone cameras clicking. In other words—it’s a killer dress. The print showed up on several other styles, as well, including a scalloped bust cocktail dress and a one-sleeved drape dress.

Siriano’s white dresses, such as the stretch cotton one-shoulder dress with a side gather, oozed St. Tropez cool, and belts gave many of the flowier numbers a bit more shape.

Midway through the show, Siriano sexed it up a bit with a red snake embossed print showing up on trousers, pencil skirts and jackets.

The end was all about jaw-dropping glamour with a bone-colored tulle strapless gown with a beaded empire waist and majorly fluffy ruffles. Siriano cranked up the fluffly ruffles a notch on his final dress—a red number that was honestly his one slip. I know he was going for drama, but it looked more like something one of my 1980s Barbies would’ve rocked.

Sky-high heels from Siriano’s Payless line topped off each outfit. Looks ranged from platform peep toes to Chinese-influenced heels with chopstick details. The line, which includes handbags, will be in Payless stores in February.

Front Row Roll Call: The always glam Veronica Webb took her usual place on Siriano’s front row. As she came in, an obviously clueless doorman tried to send her off to stand in line with the rest of the plebes. Though she could’ve pulled a diva move, Webb simply turned around, but was saved by a savvier door monitor.

Also in attendance—Miss J. “walk like it’s for sale, and the rent’s due” Alexander, runway coach, best known for his time as a judge on “America’s Next Top Model.”  Actor Alan Cumming, Maggie Grace of "Lost," and my fave, Katrina Bowden, who plays dingy Cerie on “30 Rock,” were also in the front row.
