Wendell police are due to release their annual report on crime Friday. The report is expected to shed some light on the crime rate in the town over the past 12 months.
That should be an interesting report.
As we collect police reports from the police departments in Wendell, Knightdale and Zebulon each week, I'm struck by the fact that there are considerably fewer reports in Wendell than the other two towns.
Of course there are reasons for that. Wendell is a good deal smaller than Knightdale.
And unlike Zebulon, Wendell is not located right on the 4-lane bypass, which means criminals who want to make a quick getaway have a little harder time reaching the high-speed highways.
During a recent discussion about teen curfews, Wendell police Chief Vance Johnson pointed out that the small amount of retailers that stay open late at night in Wendell makes it less likely that robberies would occur. Expect the data to bear that out come Friday.
