Easter is one of Christianity's most sacred holidays. But for children everywhere, the holiday has become another opportunity to get stuff. Candymakers have been working full speed ahead to prepare for the annual spike in demand for candy eggs, jelly beans and chocolate.
And your local government is doing its part to spread the Easter joy.
Parks and Recreation departments in Wendell, Knightdale and Zebulon are turning this Saturday into Easter Egg Hunt Saturday.
Zebulon hunters will get the day started at 10 a.m. with a hunt at Zebulon Community Park. Wendell will follow close behind with its hunt beginning at 11 a.m. at Wendell Community Park across from the tennis courts. Veteran Wendell hunters should note the change in location for this year's event. In Knightdale, hunters take off at 1 p.m. at Harper Park in downtown. All three events are free, but hunters have to bring their own baskets. If you're older than eight, don't crash the party, unless you're helping little brother or sister.
Easter egg hunts start and end quickly. The greatest pleasure for the adults at these events comes in watching the faces of the youngest children as they find an egg and place it in their basket. Even if you don't have children who are hunting age, it's time well spent on a Saturday.
