The Wendell Community Coalition is taking public its effort to keep the Wendell Public Library open.
The Wake County Library director, Tom Moore, has prepared a plan to cut costs if additional budget cuts prove necessary in the current economy. That plan includes shuttering four branches, including the Wendell Library. County leaders have said they hope not to enact those cuts.
The Community Coalition, though, is not waiting until the decision is imminent.
They've placed copies of a petition in the Wendell Town Hall and in the Wendell Community Center, that asks residents to voice their support for keeping the library open.
The petition is simple, just one sentence. It reads "We, the undersigned, ask that the Wendell Library remain open permanently, even if reduced hours become a necessity."
