Eastern Wake Buzz

Change has become a constant in our world these days. All over the eastern Wake County region the landscape is changing. But one thing remains the same. We still share a strong common interest in what’s happening in our community. The Eastern Wake News blog -- now called the Eastern Wake Buzz -- is the place to go to learn about the changes taking place in our part of the world and to share your thoughts on the news of the day. Regular entries are posted by news staffers Brian High, Aaron Moody, Denise Sherman and Johnny Whitfield. We’d love to share the latest buzz with you. We can’t wait to read your comments and insights.

With just under four hours to apply, the list of candidates in Wendell continues to grow. Three more challengers filed for seats on the Wendell town board yesterday, pushing the number of hopefuls to six. Voters will choose three people to fill seats on the town board in November.

The newest candidates include Lee Batson. She is the vice-chairman of the town's planning board and she has been an active member of the Wendell Historical Society.

Also filing yesterday was Christie Adams. She was an opponent of plans to build a townhouse development on Selma Road along the railroad tracks. She was recently appointed to the Wendell Planning Board and will sit for her first meeting as a member of that body this month.

The final new candidate is Ginna Gray. Gray was appointed by Commissioner Carol Hinnant to serve on a marketing focus group as part of the town's economic development efforts. That group is scheduled to meet for the first time July 31.

Filing closes today at noon. So far, no word from incumbents Buddy Scarboro and Bill Connolly.
