Weekend wake up: all sunshine from Krzyzewski

Every Saturday, the News & Observer takes a look around the ACC. That also provides an opportunity to check in with the Blue Devils and look for any emerging trends.

Through the nonconference schedule, head coach Mike Krzyzewski was incredibly upbeat about his team. Even in recent games where the Blue Devils started slow before beating their mid-major opponents, Krzyzewski had minimal criticism and plenty of praise for his team after the game.

After the 88-47 win over Cornell: “We ended the first half really well, and then the second half we were terrific. Our guys were playing so hard, and so together, it was just very difficult for them to score. It was a great second half.”

After the 76-54 win against Elon: “We have been a really good basketball team – that is what I told our guys. Tonight is about looking at the last 11 games, not looking at one game and are we proud of that? We are very proud of that…. Our guys have handled things just great. I am proud of them, I love them.”

After the 90-77 win against Santa Clara: “I am proud of my guys; that was a heck of a win for us…Our guys have played great. More than played great, they have competed great.”

And after Wednesday's 67-50 win over Davidson: “For our guys to go 13-0 through our nonconference schedule is just magnificent. Just terrific.”

In each game, Krzyzewski could have harped on what Duke didn’t do or what the team could have done better. But, so far, he has opted to look on the bright side.
