Duke announced that reserve S Chris Tavarez has departed the program Tuesday night. The redshirt safety tweeted—and then deleted—that he had to choose acting or football and went with the former. After deleting tweets explaining the acting or football choice, he tweeted, "life is full of decisions."

Tavarez played 59 snaps in seven games and recorded two tackles. He appeared in Duke's first four games before missing the next three after arthroscopic surgery for a torn lateral meniscus in his left knee. He played sparingly for the rest of the season.

“After meeting with Chris, it was determined that it is in everyone’s best interest for him to depart our program, effective immediately,” Duke head coach David Cutcliffe said in a statement.

Tavarez's first film appearance came in Big Momma's House 2 when he was 13 years old. Tavarez has also appeared in episodes of Tyler Perry’s Meet the Browns and played football players in television movies by  NBC (Field of Vision) and the Disney Channel  (Avalon High).
