Alan Foster writes: My body taught me a lesson last week – exercising with a stomach virus is not allowed.
After hearing my daughter deal with a nasty stomach bug all of Monday night, my Tuesday began normally. I didn’t feel my best but attributed it to the lack of sleep. I attended my normal group exercise class and about halfway through, my stamina left along with the blood to my head. Apparently, paleness isn’t a good color on me.
I was escorted to a chair, had two or three gym staff bringing me water, taking my blood pressure, and asking me questions I don’t remember answering. While I appreciated the concern for my well-being, the embarrassment was about as uncomfortable as the nausea now settling in my stomach. I’ll spare you the rest of not-so-pleasant details other than to say Wednesday was spent on the couch.
So the lesson is, a body not well-rested, not well-nourished, not well-hydrated, and not physically well will not participate in group exercise and will embarrass you if you try.
