Wyndham win a boost for Pack

Carl Pettersson will be at Prestonwood today along with fellow N.C. State product Tim Clark for a university fund-raiser.

Not only his presence, but his third win in five years on the PGA Tour, should help that cause a bit, too.

Pettersson has remained involved with the university as it develops the new Lonnie Poole Golf Course on its Centennial Campus, scheduled to open next spring, and Pettersson's win is about as good as advertising gets.

Today's tournament is the annual State Cup, whch helps fund golf scholarships. Pettersson and Clark will be hanging out at the par-3 17th hole, taking tee shots and glad-handing the program's benefactors.

Pettersson, who commuted to Greensboro from his home in Wake Forest for his win in the Wyndham Championship, was born in Sweden but moved to Greensboro as a teen, where N.C. State coach Richard Sykes spotted him.

There's even talk of a potential Ryder Cup spot for Pettersson, which has to make N.C. State's fund-raisers giddy. That remains a bit of a longshot, but it's a possibility.

Either way, Pettersson's continued success on tour is good news for N.C. State's golf program.
