North Carolina coach Roy Williams was concerned about a few foul calls (or no-calls) that went against the Tar Heels late in their 73-70 loss to Florida State, but the Heels never should have been in that position.
The Heels didn’t lose the game in the final two minutes of the second half. They lost it in the final two minutes of the first half.
Carolina was cruising comfortably on the outside shooting of Wayne Ellington until the Heels fell asleep as the half wounddown, with Florida State going on a 9-2 run to close out the half.
"It gave us momentum," Seminoles star Toney Douglas said. "We weren't playing as well as we were capable of on the offensive end. We really came out in the second half and really executed everything. Once we got momentum on the offensive end, we got our defense going and we took over the game from there."
Douglas hit a pair of threes, including one with the shot clock running down that drew a Bobby Frasor foul as well. Douglas missed from the line, but the Seminoles got the rebound and tacked on two more before the buzzer from low-clock expert Derwin Kitchen, who dispatched Georgia Tech on Friday.
That spurt turned a nine-point Carolina cushion, the Heels’ biggest lead of the day, into a 32-29 lead at the half, and that lead didn’t last long.
Kitchen and Douglas scored on Florida State’s first two possessions of the second half to put the Seminoles in the lead and while the Heels would get back on top down the stretch, it was never by much.
Buoyed by big three-pointers from Devidas Dulkys and Chris Singleton, the Seminoles shot 67 percent from the field in the second half and held on to beat the Heels.

I cannot believe some Carolina Fans
Sun, 03/15/2009 - 00:21 — bakerheelsloverOk, so what else do you want. Carolina under Coach Williams wins more than 80% of their games. He has said over and over that the emphasis is on the NCAA Tournament, and they played without the ACC Player of the Year. Quit making excuses and whinning like DOOKIES and get ready for the real tournament. It is great to be at "The Tournament" and see Carolina win, but we cannot win them all. I cannot believe the way you guys bash Roy. Two words for you "Matt Doherty"....
Heels
Sat, 03/14/2009 - 20:29 — TarheelBlueForeverI'm about fed up with Roy. He has Tyler, who is a great player and gets the benefit of the doubt on nearly every call, and still can't beat FSU. I surely hope he has six more games, but it sure seems that he will be out early again this year. Maybe he should bring back Brad to do some recruiting for him. Apparently, having six or eight McD AAs on the team isn't quite enough.
Brad????????

Sat, 03/14/2009 - 19:14 — legend47Coach Roy.....What are you doing? Your hottest player on the free throw line and they have problems w/lights. After a minute or so, the offical say let play....W.Ellington shoot the free throw and then you take him out. He's On and Hot and you pull him out??? He just got his rest.. but with your crazy subing of player, you're not earning your $$$$$$ !!!! You got out coach and thats not a Surprized to me. Sometime, your player talents can't cover up your mistakes!!

Sat, 03/14/2009 - 17:12 — acc_hoops_nutPoor Huckleberry. I heard the ACC committee requested that the reporters covering the game not interview the whiner after the game until he had stopped bawling. I was also told thet the scRams club ordered 100 extra boxes of Kleenex for Huckleberry's crying jag.
acc_nut is a obvious crack monster
Sun, 03/15/2009 - 09:41 — the_wb91acc is smoking... he is not an acc fan... I know what team he pulls for. He needs to get with the rest and pray the NIT wants to be bothered with his team. Sorry we won't see your team in the NCAA tourney.
