What a crazy weekend in the ACC. Good thing that Tulsa and Rice won, restoring normalcy to Conference USA.
While we await word whether the ACC is going to agree with the Big East's interpretation of NCAA rules that no 6-6 team can go to a conference-tie-in bowl ahead of a 7-5 team — which would be bad news for N.C. State — a few hazy pieces of the bowl picture made themselves clear Saturday.
With every bowl-eligible team either 5-3 or 4-4 in the ACC, any affiliated bowl can pick any of the ACC's 7-5 or better teams, making it a free-for-all after the ACC title game. It has to wait until then, because the title-game loser can't fall beyond the Music City Bowl, which is where BC would likely end up if the Eagles lose to Virginia Tech.
If the ACC can find a way around the NCAA rule by finding a home elsewhere for one of its 7-5 teams (Miami or Wake Forest) — and there could be as many as four at-large slots available for a 7-5 team — N.C. State could end up close to home in Washington, where the Pack would no doubt sell plenty of tickets.
Otherwise, the Pack has to roll the dice as a 6-6 team looking for an at-large bid, where it could end up as one of four teams looking for two spots.
That's if the ACC has to follow the six-win guideline word-for-word. If not, State could end up in Washington playing Navy, pitting the Icy Commander against his alma mater.

Nashville would be nice for the Heels.
Sun, 11/30/2008 - 20:24 — UNC1998It's a great Jan. 1st bowl game. It will put it's teams on TV when everyone is watching. If the Heels land this game, it would mean a lot to the program.
