Weekend paving will slow I-40 drivers & UNC-NCSU football fans

Three road projects will cause slowdowns this weekend for drivers on Interstate 40 in Durham and western Wake counties -- including football fans heading to Chapel Hill Saturday for the UNC-NCSU game, NCDOT says.

SATURDAY:

- Two of the four lanes on westbound I-40 will be closed 6 a.m. - 9 p.m. Saturday for paving between 540 Outer Loop (Exit 283) and NC 147 Durham Freeway (Exit 279). It's part of the project to widen the exit ramp from 540 to I-40 west, which NCDOT hopes to have open for traffic in December.

-- Paving on Airport Boulevard (Exit 284) will close on- and off-ramps for I-40 travelers in both directions intermittently 8 a.m.- 6 p.m. Saturday. Detour signs will direct airport travelers and other drivers to Aviation Parkway (Exit 285).

Football fans attending the game (12 noon) should allow time for traffic delays or look for other routes.  One option is US 64 west from Cary to NC 751, then north to I-40.

SUNDAY:

-- Pavement repairs on I-40 in both directions will cause occasional lane closures 7 a.m. - 6 p.m. Sunday between NC 147 Durham Freeway (Exit 279) and the Orange County line near U.S. 15-501 (Exit 270).

-- One of four lanes at a time will be closed 8 a.m. - 6 p.m. Sunday on westbound I-40 between 540 Outer Loop (Exit 283) and NC 147 Durham Freeway (Exit 279), for pavement marking work.

NCDOT normally would do most of this work at night, but engineers say it must be done during warmer daylight ours because nighttime temperatures are too cold for asphalt work.

Thanks

Grateful for this article, I was able to avoid this section all together. I did get behind a tractor or two though. (Just kidding) Actually, the state fans I ran into after the game were pretty civil, they new that they were fortunate to get out of there with a W, which was much unlike two years ago. That game was somewhat one sided, I think, but for some reason the final score of that game eludes me.

won't matter to me

gonna miss this game for the first time in five years.  everyone who goes have a wonderful time and remember to booze it up to the limit that still allows you to enjoy the game and maintain a buzz!

NCSU alums at DOT?

I blame all those NCSU engineering student alumni who landed over at DOT. Anything to needle the Heels.

..yeah..we really wanted to

..yeah..we really wanted to tick off all those Wal-Mart UNC fans from the eastern part of the state....

With a purpose

To agitate fans in the run-up to game time, as if emotions need to stoked for this one.

Hopefully, the construction

Hopefully, the construction will prevent too much of that ugly red color from polluting Chapel Hill and Kenan Stadium.

Go Heels!

..you mean like last time in

..you mean like last time in Chapel Hill where the stadium pic showed almost more State folks there than UNC fans...lol!!!...must have been taken after half-time after the UNC "faithful" had departed!!!

Efficient government

Efficient government planning at its finest.

Yes, grossly insufficient

Yes, grossly insufficient genuflecting before the altar of the football god.
