As of today, there is no more free parking on workdays between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Fayetteville Street and surrounding blocks.
The city today activated the parking pay stations recently installed in the area bounded by Morgan, Wilmington, Lenoir and Dawson streets. There are two or three on every block.
Take note of the parking space number painted on the curb next to your car. You'll need it when you tell the machine where you parked and how long you want to stay there.
Then you pay with any combination of nickels, dimes and quarters, or you pay with a Visa or MasterCard credit card.
The city website has detailed instructions.
Parking time limits still apply, with parking zones that vary from 15 minutes to two hours. Parking is free at night and on weekends.
More pay stations will be installed in surrounding downtown blocks over the next few weeks.
