RDU will hustle to open Terminal 2 early for NHL All-Star game in January

Bookmark and Share

The Triangle wants to put on its best face for the National Hockey League All-Star game next Jan. 30, so the Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority will hustle to open its new Terminal 2 about five weeks early.

RDU had planned to complete construction of the $570 million terminal by Jan. 3, for a public opening tentatively scheduled Feb. 26. The RDU board agreed Thursday to set a new opening date of Jan. 23.

That means Archer Western Contractors Ltd. will have to work faster and pay its workers more overtime. So RDU says it will pay Archer Western an extra $590,000 to finish construction by Dec. 6.
