The Raleigh-Wake Emergency Communications Center takes 911 calls and dispatches deputies, troopers and cops to accident scenes.
Now the agency has launched a Google map website at http://incidents.rwecc.com that enables the public to track current crashes and who's investigating them.
It's not a lot of info, but it's quick. It provides details you'll need if you want to learn more.
For example, as I write this, the site pinpoints the locations of two accidents reported in the past 30 minutes. Here's one of them:

Are any other North Carolina agencies doing this? Apparently not, says Barry Furey, the ECC director:
I am unsure if anyone in NC is providing this service. I know other centers nationwide print "sanitized" data of many of their calls. We specifically targeted traffic as that seemed to generate the most interest and served the geatest need. If I find any in NC, I'll let you know.
