Today the Triangle crossed the $4 barrier.
Based on purchases reported by thousands of stations across the country, AAA says the local average price of regular has reached a record high of $4.007.
That’s a bit better than the nationwide average, $4.078.
Can you avoid paying $4? Sure, but maybe not for much longer.
Gasbuddy.com’s spinoff site, raleighgasprices.com, reports that few local spots were selling the smelly, precious stuff today for $3.88.
How long did it take for the price to rise from $3 to $4? Just four months: Back on my birthday, Feb. 16, the Triangle price was $2.985.
What are you doing about the price of gas, really?

gas price
Fri, 06/27/2008 - 15:00 — Anonymous (not verified)Has anyone noticed how much NC tax is added for each gallon of gas compared to other states? NC has the absolute highest gas tax than any neighboring state. Currently, the NC gas tax is 30.15 cents per gallon. There are only 5 states that charge more. It would certainly help if that tax were reduced at the gas pump.
