The blog is maintained by N&O transportation reporter Bruce Siceloff, whose Road Worrier column is published each Tuesday.

The NC 54 - I-40 interchange has the worst traffic congestion in Orange and Durham counties. What to do about it?
Come to a public workshop this evening in Chapel Hill to find out what transportation planners are thinking -- and to give them the benefit of your thoughts.
It's from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Friday Center on NC 54 on the east side of Chapel Hill. For more info call Leta Huntsinger with the Durham Chapel Hill Carrboro Metropolitan Planning Organization, 560-4366 ext 30423 (email: leta.huntsinger@durhamnc.gov). Let her know if you'd like to join a citizen contacts panel for this effort.

What's needed is a new
Wed, 11/18/2009 - 17:03 — ctillWhat's needed is a new four-lane road from the southside of Chapel Hill across the swamp to 751, then rebuilding O'Kelly Chapel Rd to 540 and 55. This would provide an alternate route between Chapel Hill and RTP.
The DOH solution.
Wed, 11/18/2009 - 16:47 — cbroseThey can build this highway wider from now till next century and as long as the area kees growing it's only going to get worse. It's a sad testement how woefuly unplaned all this growth we have is. 540 was a project started about 20 years too late to make any real difference. We need high speed commuter rail between RTP, the airport, Durham, chapel HIll, Raleigh, and spoke lines out to the bedroom communities in northern wake, eastern wake, and johnson counties. Bus systems from there. I lived in KC which had no train system and was split by a river and a state line yet the highways where planned years ahead of growth. Our woeful lack of transport options and the poor "what the heck where they thinking" planning of legacy roads here are going to hobble growth if we don't get some options other than build mroe roads and ask for more tolls.
Most Crowded Intersections
Wed, 11/18/2009 - 15:18 — grjosephworkThe exit lane and ramp off I-540 W leading onto I-40 W has terrible traffic backups too.
Here's an idea
Wed, 11/18/2009 - 12:10 — TheLibertinePut an armed security fence around Orange County, especially Chapel Hill and Carrboro and not let them exit without papers and cause. Ha-ha-ha!
