For Raleigh state government workers who ride the bus, GoPass benefits are now gone

Bookmark and Share

If you work for state government in downtown Raleigh, you had the option for the past few years to ride Capital Area Transit and Triangle Transit buses for free. All you had to do was show your GoPass and your government ID.

State government has ended this benefit as of Dec. 31, 2012. Now, you've got to pay for your bus rides like anybody else. (The change does not affect UNC and NCSU employees.)

I'm reporting on this today. If you're a state government worker who made use of the GoPass benefit, I'd like to hear from you. Please email me with your daytime contact info, or call me at 919-829-4527.

There is a new Sheriff in town... and thank God

Why should the common citizen pay for public transportation for Government employees. I am a tax payer and I have to pay for tolls now to get to work. I have to pay for car insurance, maintenance and gas, so why shouldn't the Gov empl have to do the same. I am so tired of the have not's take from the haves just because they think they can. Start standing on your own two feet.

new government, new name

its now known as the no-GOPass (capitalizing the O is an important distinction in this case)

Many employers across the US

Many employers across the US have done away with paying for transportation and parking....they need to offset the increasing costs of other benefits such as medical.
