Expect weekend delays: I-40 East between Harrison and Wade

Watch out for traffic backups on eastbound Interstate 40 just west of Raleigh this weekend, when two lanes will be closed between Harrison and Wade avenues.

DOT says it will close the lanes from 9pm Friday night to 6am Monday morning, from just west of Harrison to just west of the Wade split. The work is part of a project to widen I-40 for 6.2 miles from Wade through the U.S. 1/64 interchange at Cary.

Motorists can expect delays, and DOT recommends an alternate route. That could mean:

- I-540 and Glenwood Avenue (US 70), which also has delays because of repaving work inside the Beltline,

- US 64 through Apex and southern Cary, or

- NC 54.
