Several retailers have deals this week on discounted gift cards -- a great way to score a triple play in the savings game.
Your initial savings is on the discounted gift card. Pay $40, for instance, on a $50 gift card, and you've already saved 20 percent.
Then, use that gift card to purchase items that are on sale -- your second layer of savings.
And finally, be sure to use coupons, and you've achieved a triple play in couponing.
In case you missed them, here's a round-up of the various discounted gift card deals available:
At Food Lion, through Tuesday: Spend $50 or more on iTunes, Belk or Lowe's Home Improvement gift cards and save $10 instantly. That means you're only putting out $40 in cash for that $50 card. The only hitch: You must also spend $10 on groceries to get the deal but as long as you buy grocery items on your list, this is a fantastic deal. Limit one per shopping trip.
At Lowes Foods, through Feb. 19: Spend $25 on Belk, Spa Finder or Sephora gift cards, and you'll receive a coupon for $5 off your next grocery order. Limit one per transaction.
This deal isn't quite as good as the Food Lion deal since your savings doesn't come right off the top. Just be sure to use that $5 coupon on your next grocery trip.
At Kroger, through Saturday: Buy any restaurant gift card and get four times the value of the card in fuel rewards points. That means a $25 gift card will get you 100 fuel points, which translates to 10 cents off a gallon of gasoline at Kroger and Shell gas stations. That's double the normal fuel rewards points shoppers receive on gift card purchases.
At CVS, through Sunday: Spend $30 on iTunes or App Store gift cards, and you'll receive $5 in Extra Bucks, which you can use like cash on a future purchase. Limit one per customer.
At Rite Aid, through Sunday: Buy a $50 Applebee's gift card, and you'll get $5 in +UP Rewards, which you can use like cash on a future purchase. Limit one per customer.
