It's not a blockbuster week for deals this time around, but there are still a few opportunities for free items and a great week to pick up some great bargains on school supplies. Walgreens has 9-cent folders and mini highlighters and 19-cent packs of pencils. Target has free scotch tape.

At Kroger, the Mega Event continues with great prices on Pepsi 2-liters and Steamfresh veggies. It also has Hillshire Farm lunchmeat for 30 cents after coupon, a stock-up price for sure.

Oral B Indicator toothbrush: $1.99 - $1 Extra Bucks. Limit 2. Buy 2 and use $2/2 coupon (7/3 P&G) = FREE.

Crest toothpaste (select varieties): $1.99 - $1 Extra Bucks - .75/1 coupon (6/5 and 7/3 P&G) = 24 cents! Limit 2.

Xtra laundry detergent: $1.49 - $1/2 blinkie spotted in Dollar General stores around the Triangle = 99 cents each when you buy 2. A very good price for laundry detergent.

Pantene Pro-V: 2/$6.97 - $2 Extra Bucks - $3/2 coupon (6/19 Smart Source) = $1.97 for 2. A good deal.

Edy's ice cream (48 oz.): 3/$10 - $3 Extra Bucks - $1/2 coupon (6/12 Smart Source) = $6 for 3. A good deal.

Gillete Fusion ProGlide razor: $9.99 - $4 Extra Bucks - $4 coupon (6/5 Smart Source) = $1.99. An OK deal.

Good deals without coupons:

Pepsi 2-liters: 88 cents. A great price, though Kroger has a better price at just 74 cents when you buy 10.

Milk (one gallon): $3.69.

VO5 shampoo: 82 cents.

The summer gas deal (buy $30 in participating products, get a $10 gas card): This week, toilet paper, laundry detergent and General Mills cereals are included, which is better than most weeks when candy and snack foods dominate. Using coupons, this could be worth your while.

At Rite Aid:

Pampers Cruisers: $9.99 - $4 +UP Rewards - $1.50/1 (6/5 P&G) = $4.49, a very good price for diapers.

Samy Fat Foam Hair Color: $8.99 - $5 +UP Reward - $3 printable Facebook coupon = 99 cents.

Zantac (25-30 count): $7.99 - $2 +UP Reward - $5 printable coupon = 99 cents.

Excedrin (20-24 count): $1.99 - .75/1 coupon (7/17 Smart Source) = $1.24. An OK price.

Coppertone suncare products: Buy $15 worth and get $5 +UP Rewards. Use the $1/1 coupon (6/26 Red Plum) to make this a better deal.

Deals without coupons:

Store-brand hand sanitizer (8 oz.): $1.

Store-brand paper plates, napkins and plastic cups bowls and storage bags: BOGO.

Simplify bathroom tissue, facial tissue or paper towels: $1.

Garden decor, tools and watering supplies: 75 percent off.

At Walgreens:

Dove products: 2/$12 - $4 Register Reward = 2/$8.

Kellogg's cereal (select varieties): 3/$6 - multiple coupons from recent inserts. An OK deal.

School supplies deals:

2-pocket folders and mini highlighters: 9 cents each. Limit 4.

10-pack pencils, 5-pack Paper Mate mechanical pencils: 19 cents.

1-subject notebooks, 24-pack crayons: 39 cents.

Poly binders, school glue, single jumbo glue stick, 3-pack glue sticks, 10-pack sheet protectors, 5-pack tab dividers: 49 cents.

At Target:

Cherries: $2.99 per pound. A very good price.

Coke 12-packs: 3/$11. Buy all three and get a Fanta 12-pack FREE, making the deal 4/$11 or $2.75 per 12-pack, an OK deal.

Dove deodorants: $3.49 - $2/1 coupon (6/26 Red Plum) = $1.49.

Softsoap (56 oz. refill): $3.79, a good price even without a coupon.

Buy any 3 items: Neosporin, Johnson & Johnson waterproof first-aid tape and Band-Aids and get a FREE Johnson & Johnson first-aid box.

School supplies deals:

Bonus-size Scotch Magic Tape: 50 cents - .50/1 Target printable coupon = FREE.

Mead poly folders: 50 cents.

Sharpie Accent highlighters (2 count): 50 cents.

Bic pens (10 count): 50 cents.

Rose Art glue sticks (6 count): 80 cents.

At Kroger:

Hillshire Farm lunchmeat (5 oz.): $1 - .35/1 coupon (7/10 Red Plum) = 30 cents. A very good deal.

The Mega Event continues from last week: Buy 10 participating items and get $5 off your order instantly, which averages out to a 50 cents per item discount. Many of the items have coupons to go with them. A few are great deals without coupons. Here are deals that stood out to me:

Birds Eye Steamfresh veggies: 89 cents each after Mega Event discount. A great deal without coupons.

Pepsi two-liters: 74 cents each after discount. A great deal, no coupon required.

Deals without coupons or special promotion:

Sprite melons: $1 each.

Sweet vadalia onions: 69 cents per pound.

Black seedless grapes: 99 cents per pound.

Cherries: $2.99 per pound.

Grape tomatoes (10 oz.): $1.50.

Perdue boneless skinless chicken breasts: $1.77 per pound, a very good price!

School supplies deals:

Crayola crayons (24 count): 25 cents. Limit 12.

Notebook filler paper (150 sheets): 75 cents.
