Wednesday Deals (Dec. 21-27)

Ham, turkey, vegetables, rolls and napkins -- they're all on sale this week at the supermarket, just in time for holiday gatherings. Among the best deals: Sister Schubert rolls for 59 cents at Harris Teeter, 20-cent canned Green Giant veggies at Lowes Foods, $1.29 per pound spiral sliced ham at Food Lion and 99-cent pineapples at Aldi. And my personal favorite deal of the week: $3.88 for 5 pounds of Clementines at Food Lion.

You can snatch up a great freebie at CVS right now that would be perfect for a last-minute stocking stuffer.

'Extreme Couponing' spin-off to air next week

Love it or hate it, the controversial TV show "Extreme Couponing" has spawned a spin-off series scheduled to debut next week.

"Extreme Couponing All-Stars" will air at 10 p.m. Dec. 27 on the TLC network. It will be the first show in a seven-part series.

If it's anything like the original show, "All-Stars" is likely to feature over-the-top coupon shoppers loading multiple grocery carts to over-flowing, then paying pennies on the dollar after redeeming hundreds coupons.

According to Entertainment Weekly's Inside TV blog:

FREE Peeps coupon is back!

If you missed out on free holiday Marshmallow Peeps a couple of weeks ago, you're in luck.

The printable coupon for $1 off 2 is back on the Peeps website. Click here to print.

Take your coupon to Rite Aid, where Peeps are on sale this week two for $1.

That translates to Free Peeps. A terrific start to stuffing a stocking.

(Don't forget: You can print two of these coupons.)

Spend money on the gifts, not the giftwrap

I always like to say I'm frugal, not cheap.

I absolutely don't mind spending on things that are worthwhile. Items that are long-lasting, high-quality, much-needed or long-desired.

But things that are tossed in the trash almost immediately after buying or using -- not so much.

Things like wrapping paper.

I used to wrap on the cheap by purchasing my giftwrap at 90 percent off clearance after the holidays. That saved me plenty of money, for sure.

But what I really wanted was giftwrap that was easy on the wallet AND easy on the environment.

I thought I'd share a few ideas I've come up with -- in hopes of saving you a few dollars and the planet a few trees.

Leave me a comment on your last-minute holiday preparations and consider yourself entered to win both. It's a package deal.

This giveaway will have a quick turnaround, closing at noon on Wednesday so I can get them mailed out ASAP to the winner.

Good luck and happy holidays!

UPDATED: Sunday deals: The Holiday Edition

With Christmas just a week away and Hanukkah even closer, the sales circulars are loaded with ads for toys, fragrances, candy and those as-seen-on-TV gadgets and gizmos.

Look a little closer, however, and you'll find plenty of real deals -- freebies and cheapies to fill stockings and help make your holidays more festive. I've highlighted many of them for you in this week's list of all the best deals at CVS, Rite Aid, Walgreens, Target, Kroger and Kerr Drug.

We have a winner...in the Starbucks gift card giveaway!

Thanks so much to all of you who entered my giveaway for a little holiday splurge in the form of a $10 Starbucks gift card.

I asked you to leave me comments on your favorite holiday splurges and your responses were so fun to read. Even we frugal folks have our guilty pleasures!

And, of course, I especially liked how some of you described obtaining your holiday splurges on the cheap.

No Sunday coupon inserts

This is one of those rare weekends when we won't receive coupon inserts in the Sunday newspaper.

Take advantage of the lull and get caught up on your clipping and filing from previous weeks. At least that's what I'll be doing.

I have two stacks of coupons -- divided into food and non-food categories -- that I just haven't had the time to file!
