Registration open for N&O coupon workshop on June 15

Learn how to save 50 percent -- or more -- on your grocery bill in my upcoming coupon workshop.

Pay just $10 to register for the class, a three-hour workshop on Saturday, June 15. Most folks save at least that much in their first shopping trip after the class.

The fee includes free parking, a free breakfast, a detailed class handout, recipes, worksheets and a reusable grocery bag filled with freebies.

I'll be teaching this class, covering basic and advanced coupon techniques, in Raleigh at The News & Observer's downtown offices, 215 S. McDowell St.

The half-day session will include information on:

Carlie C's grand opening: Great deals on ice cream, peanut butter and more

Carlie C's IGA grocery store on New Bern Avenue in Raleigh is celebrating its grand opening with some pretty tempting prices.

It has been several months since Carlie C's took over the location that Kroger abandoned in a cost-cutting move, but it's never too late for some grocery bargains.

Even better, the prices, valid through May 26, are also good at the Carlie C's Garner Station store.

Take a look at some of the better deals:

Score free produce with $5 rebate in Sunday's N&O

How does $5 in free produce sound?

That's the deal when you take advantage of the rare rebate in Sunday's coupon inserts.

It's a great opportunity to score some savings on grocery items, such as produce, that almost never offer coupons.

Drugstore deals, May 19-25

Triangle drugstores are offering several good deals this week. Among the highlights:

*CVS has nice deals on Colgate mouthwash, Mars chocolate, Irish Spring body wash, Clear Scalp products and Huggies diapers. You can also pick up a 2 liter bottle of Coke for 74 cents.

*Rite Aid is offering nice deals on candy, gum, 7UP, Colgate products, OFF! insect repellent, and Banana Boat and Hawaiian Tropic sunscreen.

Kroger deals, May 19-25

Look for lots of good deals at Kroger this week on produce, boneless chicken breasts and chicken leg quarters, Green Giant canned vegetables, Kroger-brand soda, Cool Whip, Kroger-brand cream cheese and Pepsi 2 liters.

It's interesting to note that none of these deals requires a coupon, which is significant since the chain stopped double coupons in the Triangle one week ago. Read about the coupon policy change HERE.

The best coupon deals of the week are on Sweet Baby Ray's barbecue sauce -- just 67 cents each when you buy three -- and Ball Park Franks for 88 cents each when you buy two.

While the chain has promised over-all lower prices, shoppers in other areas where double coupons were previously discontinued have reported through social media that the lower pricing was short lived. Let me know what you think about Kroger's pricing in the comments section below this post.
