Harris Teeter discounts online shopping

If you've ever contemplated trying Harris Teeter's online shopping service, now's the time.

Harris Teeter will waive the $4.95 fee for shoppers new to Express Lane. And now through the end of summer, the regular fee has been cut to $1.95 per shop.

I've never tried this but the idea of having someone else do my shopping and load all my groceries into my car is tempting.

Anyone out there a regular Express Lane shopper? Are you satisfied with the service? How do they handle coupons? Is it worth $4.95? Or at least $1.95? Please leave your thoughts in the comments section below.

Express Lane

I have been using Express Lane while school is out, as I am loathe to haul my 2 boys to the grocery store. The Leesville location added Express Lane & offered a free intro period. Free is good! I still use it at the special price of $1.95, as a couple of coupons will cover that cost. I don't think I will use it at $4.95.

The up-sides: you don't have to go through the store, rainchecks are automatically written for out of stock sale items, they do a surprisingly good job of choosing produce. The down-sides: not really a time-saver (it takes a while to find items to place the order online), you miss out on finding unexpected deals or 'yellow sticker' meats, you can't use reusable bags. Overall a very good experience.

Coupons are accepted, but they are credited on your next order. You hand in your coupons for your order when you pick it up. They are filed, then when you place another order, the coupons are credited to that order. When the promo period is coming to an end, I'll have to make sure to place an order of non-coupon items to use that credit.

Thanks for the review,

Thanks for the review, dstarr. I just might have to try it before the price goes back up to $4.95. Impressive that the produce choices are good!
