Keep the kids busy for free with upcoming activities at the Lego store, Home Depot and Lowes Home Improvement stores.
First up is a Kids Workshop at Home Depot this Saturday, Feb. 4, from 9 a.m. until noon. Children ages 5 to 12 are invited to make a Valentine's Day keepsake box. In addition to the box, each child gets an apron, a commemorative pin and a certificate. It's all free.
Next up, mark your freebie calendars for Tuesday, Feb. 7, Lego fans ages 6 to 14 can make a free miniature model at the Lego store at Crabtree Valley Mall in Raleigh.
The build begins at 5 p.m. and continues while supplies last. This month's free miniature figurine is a hockey player. (Dressed in red, black and white, of course.)
And finally, pencil in Satuday, Feb. 11, for the Lowes Home Improvement Build and Grow Clinic for children in first through fifth grades. This month's project is a Valentine's Day card creator. It looks like a small lap desk outfitted with card-making supplies. The first 50 children present receive the kit, aprons and safety goggles. Sign up online here.
