A first-class letter is about to cost you a penny more to send.
Starting Sunday, Jan. 27, postage for a 1 oz. letter edges up to 46 cents.
Postage for postcards also goes up a penny to 33 cents.
If you're like me and like to pinch every penny, you have today and Saturday to purchase the Postal Service's Forever stamps at the old 45-cent rate, which will be good regardless of how much postal rates increase.
(Some post offices have Saturday hours and many grocery stores sell stamps. Just make sure the store doesn't add a surcharge that would erode yours savings.)
Is it really worth your while to purchase Forever stamps?
If you stockpiled Forever stamps when they were first introduced in 2007, you'll be saving a nickel per letter come Sunday.
