A Facebook freebie apology

Bookmark and Share

I don't know about you, but I haven't had much luck when it comes to the freebies offered by companies via their Facebook pages.

The freebies are often gone within minutes. Other times, the site is so overwhelmed, it's impossible to get signed up.

I've often wondered whether the goodwill that companies are trying to create through giveaways actually backfires with so many frustrated and disappointed fans.

So it was nice to see this offer from the makers of Pantene shampoo after a giveaway gone awry last week.

Posted on the Pantene Facebook page:

We’re so sorry for the glitches with our giveaway this week, and we want to make it up to you! If you weren’t able to claim a coupon due to technical issues, email us (Pantene.im@pg.com) with Your Name, Your Address, Your Email and we will send you a coupon for FREE Pantene. (US Only, until 07/05/11)
(Free shampoo or conditioner up to $4.99, excluding trial size. US only, 18 or older, 1 coupon per household.)

Impressive.

If you missed out, don't delay. The apology offer is only good through the end of today.

This has happened to me more than once...

Both on facebook and other websites I've clicked through a "get your coupon here" linke, given a company my personal info only to be told there were none left.  Each time I've emailed them and told them the situation and to either remove all of my personal informaiton from their database or e/mail me a coupon.  Every single time I've gotten a coupon in the mail and many times for more than the original coupon that was offered. Never hurts to ask!!!

I like your tenacity,

I like your tenacity, Allison! Next time I get shut out of a deal, I'm going to do the same. Thanks for the tip!

Good point. Facebook is a

Good point. Facebook is a marketing dream come true for companies.

I agree, plus I resent that

I agree, plus I resent that the company then expects to access your friends list and personal profile. Invasion of privacy is worth more than  buck.
