Wake Forest firm wins dubious 'honor'

The Worst Web Site Ever? A&S Computer Services of Wake Forest wins the prize.

Of approximately 14,000 votes cast online for four nominees, A&S was the people’s choice for the worst Web site in the contest held by Strategic Guru, a Cary marketing firm.

The prize? A Web makeover, valued at $9,000, performed by Strategic Guru.

“This is definitely an honor,” said Dave Sroelov, owner and president of A&S, a two-person company that provides information technology, management and human resources consulting services. “If you’re going to do something, you should be number one.”

Sroelov said that friends and clients alike have heaped abuse on the company’s Web site.

“I do not believe our Web site has helped us in any way, shape or form,” he said. “I look forward to having one that does.”

The voting was so close that Strategic Guru gave runner-up ASAP Office Supply of Raleigh a consolation prize: a Web makeover valued at $5,000.

“We thought they were both so deserving,” said Carolyn Rhinebarger, Strategic Guru’s founder and chief brainstormer.

The Most Awkward CRIZZLE'S CRITICAL CONDITION Yet!! (Yes, I Talk To A Woman!)

As always, sorry for the lateness, but I had to take a weed-wacker to this edition of the Condition — mostly, for my sake.

Just listen to me emm and umm my way through this podcast. Continuing with "Ladies' Week," I talk to Karina Longworth, online film critic, film festival gadfly, editor of movie news site SpoutBlog and an unrequited crush of mine. Since I've been talking Cannes with previous guests for the past few weeks, I figured why don't I just talk to someone who can actually give me some first-person, Cannes details.

I don't know if I was nervous, or if Miss Longworth didn't grasp I was trying to get a conversational vibe with this podcast (she still came correct with her Cannes 411), but this podcast may come off as a bit awkward. Nevertheless, for all you fellow film geeks out there who are fans of the bespectacled Longworth, I couldn't keep this from you — even if it does make me sound like a bumbling idiot with no game. You can also download it here.

Next week: It's L.A. Week, where I talk to a couple of film guys from the City of Angels.

Here Is Monday's CRIZZLE'S CRITICAL CONDITION — On A Tuesday!!!!!

Yesterday was a holiday, which means that everything was put on pause — including posting my latest installment of the Condition.

Well, fear not, because here is the latest episode, featuring Paul Clark, film blogger, contributor (at the moment) to Nerve.com's Screengrab blog and keeper of what is known as the Muriel Awards (where I recently became a member). We talk about where these Muriels came from (Skandies voters may not dig my theory) as well as the state of online film criticism and the recently-wrapped Cannes Film Festival. You can download it here.
