High school coverage in today's N&O

The Wakefield Wolverines volleyball team remained undefeated in their 3-0 win over Leesville Road. Nate Taylor has the story.

Green Hope sweeps at the Seahawk meet, while Broughton and Leesville Road also do well. Tim Stevens has the story.

Wakefield 30, Knightdale 0

Wakefield protected the ball, threw the ball well and worked the clock when needed to win Friday's game at Knightdale 30-0 and give the home team its second shutout loss in as many weeks.

On the other end of the ball, the Knights (0-3) suffered the effects of eight first-quarter penalties and ended the game with a mere two yards passing to Wakefield's 258.

Wakefield 42, Holly Springs 28

Wakefield scored four touchdowns in the second half to defeat Holly Springs 42-28 in a non-conference high school football game.

Wolverine quarterback Connor Mitch passed for 340 yards and four touchdowns to help the Wolverines even their record at 1-1.

Relay opens cross country season

Wake County schools, plus West Johnston, will open cross country season with 6,000-meter relay.

Bull City Football Scrimmage moved

The Bull City Jamboree, a 16-team high school football preseason scrimmage, has been moved from Durham County Stadium to Durham Riverside.

Wakefield High choral director takes on "Glee"

The critics have weighed in on "Glee," the new Fox show that airs tonight at 9, then disappears until the fall.

Rex Healthcare welcomes public to grand opening of Wakefield facility

Rex Healthcare is hosting a public open house Saturday to inaugurate its new Wakefield campus, which will offer cancer treatment, out-patient surgery, urgent care, wellness services and a sleep lab.

The $25 million satellite facility is located at 1200 Governor Manly Way, Wake Forest, at the corner of Capital Boulevard and New Falls of Neuse.

Saturday's event is slated for 11 a.m.-2 p.m. and will feature food and entertainment.

Rex Healthcare Wakefield will be open for business starting on Monday.

The Blue Devils have received letters of intent confirming that Triangle influence, according to scout.com. Durham Hillside running back Desmond Scott, the gem of the class whom coach David Cutcliffe pried away from Rutgers, has turned in his letter.
