Toy, game coupons available on Coupons.com

Coupons.com is offering a dozen coupons on toys and games that have the potential to match up with clearance sales at Target and other stores trying to reduce their after-Christmas inventories.

The coupons range in value from $3 off a Jenga or Cranium game to as much as $8 off a Scrabble Flash, Simon Flash and Yahtzee Flash.

Think birthday party gifts and other special occasions throughout the year.

Most of the coupons expire March 11.

Save your sanity with tips to declutter from the holidays

Is your house about to burst at the seams with all the stuff you've gained from the holidays? Do you feel compelled to just toss everything in the trash just to get it out of the way? Here are some tips to help bring sanity to your household and declutter for the new year.

Tips to score best holiday clearance deals

If you can stand the thought of shopping for next year's holidays, now is the time to score deep discounts on Christmas and Hanukkah items.

Between now and mid-January, prices on everything from artificial Christmas trees to Hanukkah gelt will be marked down drastically. Right now, most items are 50 percent to 60 percent off. But as the days go by, the discounts will get deeper -- as high as 90 percent, in some cases.

I know some shoppers who haunt the aisles of Target and the drug stores just waiting for those 90 percent off signs to go up.

Here are a couple of hints to get the most bang for your clearance buck:

Holiday Help: Coupons on toys!

High-tech, low-price toys top toy list

From tiny remote-control cars from Mattel to nearly paper-thin electronic guitars and drums from WowWee Toys called Paper Jamz, technology is infused in many of this year's projected hot toys. But that doesn't mean the return of $100 price tag, which seems to have been for the most part banished since the recession.

Toys "R" Us plans to hire 45,000 for the holidays

Toys "R" Us plans to hire 45,000 workers for the holidays.

The New Jersey-based toy retailer announced the hiring effort today, adding that the initiative will double its domestic workforce — albeit temporarily.

About 10,000 of those jobs will be in the 600 temporary stores — Toys "R" Us Express — the company is putting up at malls across the country.

Of course, that doesn't necessarily translate into lots of local jobs. Toys "R" Us has just one traditional big box store in the Triangle — at Cary's Crossroads Plaza — and two Babies "R" Us stores — on Capital Boulevard in Raleigh and on Fayetteville Road in Durham. It has opened an Express store at Northgate Mall. That store will close in January.
