A Few More Things About Phonte/Tigallo/Tay Gravy/Deacon Tigglesworth

For those of you who dug the Foreign Exchange profile I wrote for the Arts & Living section yesterday, here a couple of other projects featuring Exchange MC Phonte Coleman, who is quickly becoming who I want to be when I grow up.

1. Continuing in his “singing tear,” he also contributed vocals to "Look What You're Doin' To Me,” the new single from Jazzanova’s new album, “Of All the Things,” coming out next week. I just heard this song today (courtesy of the always-reliable folk at SoulBounce), and it keeps bringing a smile to my face with each listen — and you all know how rarely that happens.

2. I’m also listening to Phonte’s comedy album (yes, he does comedy, too!), “The Story of U.S.” An album he did way back in ‘99, it has him and producer Eccentric poking fun at rappers (you have to hear the Wu-Tang Clan parody “69th Chamber Intercourse”) and the music industry. And yes, Little Brother fans, Percy Miracles makes a nutty appearance. You can snap the album up through iTunes or through his MySpace page.

3. And finally, if you haven’t been listening to Phonte spin records (along with DJ Brainchild) and dispense pearls of wisdom on his podcast, Gordon Gartrell Radio, you are missing out on some hellaciously funny stuff. Not only is the boy comical as a radio host, but he has impeccable taste in music. Our tastes are so alike, it’s like I’m doing the show with him. (Hint, hint, Tay!)
