Southern Metro Swimming Championship meet results: Edgebrook takes 3 of 4 titles

The Edgebrook Eels won three of the four team championships at the Southern Metro Swimming champions held earlier this month at the Smithfield Recreation and Aquatics Center. The Eels totaled 135 ½ points in the ages 10-and-under girls bracket, 148 in the 10U boys and 139 in the boys 11-and-up division.

Piranhas take Tarheel Swimming Association title

The Tarheel Swimming Association has put its 41st annual summer recreational league into its history book, with the Prestonwood Piranhas again winning the overall title.

This year, the league grew to than 10,400 athletes ages 18 and younger on 78 teams from community pools around Wake County, TSA president Bob Goudreau reported.

Competition was held on Tuesday nights in June and July unless postponed to Wednesday because of storms. Nineteen teams won division championships.

The Cary City Invitational swim meet celebrated its 30th anniversary over the weekend, and lots of people were at the celebration.

Olympic star Greg Louganis will speak to area divers at Duke

 

Triangle divers and their coaches and fans have the chance to meet one of competitive diving's legends this weekend. 
 
Greg Louganis, a double gold-medalist at the 1984 and 1988 Olympics, is visiting the Duke University campus in Durham for three days as part of an athlete mentor program conducted by USA Diving. 

Tarheel Swimming Association competitors hit pool

The Tarheel Swimming Association splashed into community pools around Wake County on Tuesday night, starting the 41st season for the recreational summer league.

Each Tuesday through July 19, more than 10,000 athletes ages 18 and under on 78 teams will compete in dual meets, TSA president Bob Goudreau said.

MOR-Wolfpack Aquatics eighth at UltraSwim

Marlins Of Raleigh-Wolfpack Aquatics swimmers produced 148 points and finished eighth out of more than 200 teams at the May 12-15 Charlotte UltraSwim Grand Prix Meet at the Mecklenburg County Aquatic Center, MOR coach Paul Silver said.

The USA Swimming event, with prize money of surpassing $50,000, drew Olympians including Michael Phelps, Cullen Jones, Ryan Lochte and Natalie Coughlin.
