You probably didn't know that from September 15 to October 15, the nation celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month. That's part of the reason "The Latino List" (8 tonight, HBO), is worthwhile viewing.
But the main reason is that in a time when there's so much 'us and them'-ing, when immigration seems most closely associated with criminality, it's good to see an exploration of our pluralism, and how that pluralism has shaped our nation.
Of course, the deck is loaded here; "The Latino List" features accomplished folk in various fields. Honduran-American America Ferrera talks about hiding her first name from teasing kids; José Moreno Hernández, an engineer of Mexican descent and a former NASA astronaut, talks about finding a way to teach his children the value of the hard work his middle-class status essentially saved them from.
