Looking at Ann and John Campbell

Now who are Ann and John Campbell, the people who've donated some $50,000 to help elect the new Democratic candidates to the Wake County school board?

As noted in today's article by John Frank, the Campbells aren't talking. Neither are their friends or associates.

"Their involvement is more about policy than politics," said Dan Blue III, a close friend of John Campbell who used to work him. He refused to talk more about the Campbells, calling them "private citizens" who don't want the spotlight.

Wake Democrats on Wednesday's anniversary "toward high poverty and high cost schools"

The Wake County Democratic Party is looking ahead to this fall's school board elections while noting Wednesday's anniversary of the move away from the old diversity policy.

In a press release Wednesday, the Wake Democrats said that day was "the first anniversary of the Wake County School Board's historic vote to take this community down a path toward high poverty and high cost schools."  It was on March 23, 2010 that the school board majority passed the community-schools directive.

Much of the press release focuses on the release last week of the AdvancED report, which the Democrats say "validates" the critics of the GOP board majority. The release also notes how the school board has been panned by former President Bill Clinton, U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan and television satirist Stephen Colbert.

Truitt revises account of firing Supt. Burns

School board candidate Cathy Truitt is revising her account of being asked if she'd support firing Supt. Del Burns.

Truitt had said on WPTF on Sept. 24 that school board member Ron Margiotta had asked her in a vetting interview if she'd support a motion to fire Burns. Truitt said Wednesday that she was asked that question but she's not sure if Margiotta was the questioner.

Truitt said that at several candidate vetting interviews she was asked the same question. The question was whether she would support firing Asst. Supt. Chuck Dulaney.
