Inspired by a future first lady? Get her look

Edressme.com is having an interesting yet inspired sale.

Pick a designer dress that's like one worn by either Cindy McCain or Michelle Obama, and you'll get 20 percent off today through Nov. 4.

So if you like McCain's look, which includes dresses by designers such as Escada, Carolina Herrera and Oscar de la Renta, you'll be able to pick from dresses with large collars or those nipped at the waist.

Or pick a dress with Obama's more casual look of belted shifts and chunky pearls. She's also more likely to show off her shoulders and arms and experiment with prints, so you'll find those on sale too.

Check out the First Lady Fever sale here.

Nordstrom's half-yearly sale

Holly Aiken's orange sale

In the spirit of Halloween, Raleigh handbag designer Holly Aiken is knocking off 20 percent on all orange handbags through Oct. 31. As many of you may know, her bags don't go on sale often. And what a perfect time to match your bag to the season!

Ciao Bella's turning two with a sale

Can it already be two years? Apparently so. The Cary boutique turns two years old on Thursday. And to celebrate, everything in the store is 20 percent off.

Monogram mark down

HandPicked in Cameron Village is having its twice yearly monogramming sale, knocking off 15 percent on its line of monogram jewelry and gifts. I was just in the store last week and thought to myself some of the items, including silver earrings, bracelets and pendants, would make cute Christmas gifts.

Certain Things fall sale

Certain Things, which has stores in Cameron Village and North Hills, has taken 30 percent off fall clothes through next Friday (Oct. 24). The sale, however, does not include Michael Stars or accessories.

Kristen's Shoe Boutique loves you

Wall Street might not appreciate you too much right now. (Or vice versa)

But Kristen's Shoe Boutique does. Today through Monday (Oct.13), the Cary shoe store is having a customer appreciation sale where all fall shoes and handbags are 20 percent off (one item only), including this sleek wedge to the left by daniblack. Kristen's carries other designer brands including Nanette Lepore, Kate Spade and BCBG Max Azria.

Now if we can manage to get the Dow up 20 percent instead of down ...

Vintage jewelry show and sale

Don't let the boss know, but one of my favorite sites to browse each week is www.jointventurejewelry.com, the Cary jewelry store at the Arboretum.

I just adore looking at the old (and sometimes new) jewelry. I wish I knew the story behind every single piece. I'm often struck by what circumstances caused someone to part with some of the pieces. They're that gorgeous.

Starting tomorrow, the pickings get even better when the annual vintage jewelry show and sale gets cranked up. The dealer coming in is a third generation family from the Northeast that collects pieces from the Victorian, Edwardian and Art Deco periods. Need I say more?

More than 300 pieces will be at the show, and they're all marked off 25 percent. The sale runs through Oct. 23.

For a teaser, check out what they have here.
