Inspired by earthworms, researchers have created a nearly indestructible autonomous worm-bot.

A team of scientists from MIT, Harvard University and Seoul National University constructed the robotic "Meshworm" almost entirely from soft materials that help it survive being stomped  and bludgeoned by a hammer.

The robot is several inches long and moves much like a real worm by contracting segments of its body. Electrical current. Artificial muscles were created with wire and contract via electrical current.

The movement, called peristalsis, is also used in digestive tracts. This is how the esophagus pushes food to our stomach.

The technology could be used in future generation endoscopes, implants, and prostheses.

What could go wrong with an army of autonomous and nearly indestructible robotic worms?
