Dumpling lovers rejoice.
David Mao, 66, the former chef and co-owner of The Duck & Dumpling, has already had enough of retirement.
Mao said today he will open a new restaurant, David’s Dumpling and Noodle Bar, on Hillsborough Street in June. Mao is taking over the space at Oberlin Road and Hillsborough that was most recently occupied by Red Hot and Blue.
Mao sold his share of Duck & Dumpling to partner Greg Hatem in February and retired after nearly 40 years of restauranteering in Raleigh.
“When I retired it felt really good the first couple weeks,” Mao said. “Then after that I’m kind of bored.“
He described this latest endeavor as “The Return of David Mao: Act III.”
