N.C. State gets three football commits

Northside Christian Academy defensive end Sylvester Crawford, who committed to N.C. State this week, doesn’t immediately stand out as a freakishly talented athlete.

But according to Northside Christian coach Brentson Buckner, college coaches were excited when they turned on the film and saw what he could do on the field.

“You see him do things that a lot of high school football players can’t do as far as technique,” Buckner said.

Focus on Desmond Scott

Desmond Scott of Durham Hillside is one of the top high school football players in North Carolina.

He received his first college scholarship offers when he was in the ninth grade.

He orginally committed to Rutgers, but now says he will sign with Duke.

Staff writer Javier Serna will be at Scott's 2007 debut tonight against Southern Vance and file a blog report.

Next Tuesday, Javier will have  a feature story on Scott as part of the High School Huddle's profiles on the state's top high school football player.

Southeast linebacker getting offers

Southeast Raleigh junior linebacker/ defensive end Kendall Moore (6-foot-3, 220 pounds) already has received scholarship offers from N.C. State and Wake Forest.

Moore is part of a defensive unit that is expected to be among the area's best. The defensive front is anchored by 6-5, 340-pound Daniel McCullers.

Pack gets another S.C. commit

While preparing for its Aug. 28 season opener at South Carolina, N.C. State is establishing a recruiting presence in its border state to the south.

Wide receiver Quinton Payton of T.L. Hanna High in Anderson, S.C., on Monday became the second South Carolina player to commit to the Wolfpack in two weeks. Hanna coach Kenya Fouch said Payton is an excellent student and also considered Wake Forest and Duke.

Leesville Road's Greene picks Duke

Leesville Road High standout Zach Greene's football commitment might surprise local fans who know his father, Dwayne Greene.

Dwayne is a former N.C. State defensive back who is a member of the Wolfpack Club's board of directors. His son committed Monday night to a different school that's a 25-minute drive from his home in the Olde Creedmoor subdivision in North Raleigh.

Zach Greene plans to play cornerback at Duke and turned down an N.C. State scholarship offer.

Pack gets huge OL commit

Denzelle Good, a huge rising senior offensive lineman from Gaffney, S.C., has committed to N.C. State.

Good is 6-foot-5 and 320 pounds and was rated the ninth-best player in the Class of 2009 in South Carolina by The (Columbia) State Newspaper in February.

Pack gets second Ga. commit in two days

N.C. State coach Sidney Lowe tapped familiar territory for his second commitment from a top-100 basketball recruit in two days.

Richard Howell, a 6-foot-8, 215-pound rising senior forward at Wheeler High in Marietta, Ga., committed to the Wolfpack on Monday. J.J. Hickson, who was N.C. State’s leading scorer and rebounder as a freshman last season before leaving for the NBA, also played at Wheeler.

Brown's commitment critical for Lowe

Lorenzo Brown's high school coach, Allen Whitehart, said Brown committed to N.C. State on Sunday morning because the Wolfpack felt like "family."

If that family were putting together a photo album, Brown would belong on the cover. It's impossible to overstate his importance to N.C. State.

Pack gets coveted hoops recruit

N.C. State secured one of its top Class of 2009 recruiting targets Sunday morning when guard Lorenzo Brown of Roswell, Ga., told assistant coach Larry Harris he is committing to the Wolfpack.

Brown is 6-foot-5 and 195 pounds and will be able to play both point guard and shooting guard in college, according to his coach, Allen Whitehart of Centennial High.

DURHAM – First-year football coach David Cutcliffe scored a big hometown recruiting coup for Duke late this week with a commitment from Desmond Scott, a Durham Hillside running back.

Scott, who is rated the fourth-best prospect overall in the
Class of 2009 in North Carolina by rivals.com, previously had committed to Rutgers.

But his father, Tony Scott, said Desmond was excited about the direction of Duke’s program under Cutcliffe.
