West Johnston 3, South Johnston 2

Tripp Atkinson’s sacrifice fly gave West Johnston its first lead of the night in the top of the seventh inning, scoring Kessler Sorrell and Justin Carroll got out of a nobody out bases loaded jam in the bottom half of the inning, sending the defending champions into Monday’s semifinals.

Upcoming area prep baseball tournaments

The prep baseball tournaments that highlight the Spring break and Easter run of school breaks begin this Thursday. Below are the schedules for teams in the Johnston County and Garner area over the next three weeks.

A Super Tuesday of league openers in prep baseball and softball

Super Tuesday in the presidential election is behind us, but today brings another kind of super Tuesday in the world of high school sports. Conference play in baseball and softball for the Northern Carolina 2A, Eastern Carolina 3A and Greater Neuse River 4A all begin today and there are solid match ups all around.
In the GNRC, the highlight game on the baseball side is a meeting of undefeated squads as Smithfield-Selma hosts West Johnston at 7 p.m.

NCBCA announces all-state baseball teams

The 2011 North Carolina Baseball Coaches Association All-State Baseball Teams have been annnounced. Triangle players named to the teams include Alex Raburn (Jordan), Will Butler (Wakefield), Brian Taylor (Harnett Central), Jason Creasy (Clayton), Carlos Rodon (Holly Springs), Justin Manning (Holly Springs) and Peter Owens (Chapel Hill).
