Carlie C's grand opening: Great deals on ice cream, peanut butter and more

Carlie C's IGA grocery store on New Bern Avenue in Raleigh is celebrating its grand opening with some pretty tempting prices.

It has been several months since Carlie C's took over the location that Kroger abandoned in a cost-cutting move, but it's never too late for some grocery bargains.

Even better, the prices, valid through May 26, are also good at the Carlie C's Garner Station store.

Take a look at some of the better deals:

Vote for Durham peanut butter company to help win $10,000

Mark Overbay, owner of Big Spoon Roasters, got good news recently. He was nominated for Martha Stewart Living's American Made Awards. The coolest thing is Overbay's small company could win $10,000. If Overbay gets enough votes to win the audience choice award, he will win the cash to help his fledgling business and be featured in Martha Stewart Living.

We should mention that his peanut butter is amazing and comes in five different peanut flavors: pecan, cashew, almond, cocoa and plain. He sells at the Carrboro Farmers' Market on Saturdays and is available in specialty grocery stores all over the Triangle.

Spreading the wealth with Free peanut butter

Over the last couple of weeks, I've "bought" nine jars of peanut butter.

OK, I'm using the verb "bought" loosely. I actually got all nine jars free when Harris Teeter and Lowes Foods put Planters peanut butter on sale for $1.50 at the same time a .75/1 coupon was issued by the manufacturer. With double coupons at both stores, that equals FREE peanut butter.

It's a coupon clipper's dream when sales and cents-off coupons align so perfectly.

But what to do with all that peanut butter?
