What to Watch on Wednesday: 'L&O: SVU' gets a hand from 'Criminal Intent' detective

Arrow (8pm, CW) - With the Undertaking only days away, Malcolm dons his black hood to conclude business with seismologist Dr. Brion Markov and his team.

Nature: The Private Life of Deer (8pm, UNC-TV) - Night-vision cameras and GPS tracking equipment provide glimpses into the lives of white-tailed deer, of which some 30 million live in the U.S.

Modern Family (9pm, ABC) - Mitch's ex-boyfriend Teddy (a successful doctor) invites the Pritchett clan to a fundraiser at a roller rink, where Phil gives Gloria skating lessons. Haley gives Alex tips on meeting boys and Cam tries to act relaxed.

Law & Order: SVU (9pm, NBC) - A sniper attacks the NYPD twice, and the shootings appear to be linked to one of Fin's old cases in narcotics. Fin contacts his former partner and Lt. Eames (Kathryn Erbe from "Law & Order: Criminal Intent") assists with the investigation. NBC didn't have any photos of Erbe from tonight's episode, so this is Detective Benson (Mariska Hargitay) and Detective Amaro (Danny Pino) being shot at by snipers.

Secrets of the Dead: Death on the Railroad (10pm, UNC-TV) - An investigation into the 1832 deaths of 57 Irish laborers who were laying railroad tracks in Pennsylvania. Cholera was blamed at the time, but modern forensic science sheds light on what really happened.

Nashville (10pm, ABC) - Both Rayna and Juliette score CMA award nominations so Edgehill Records throws them a party. Meanwhile, tension mounts between Gunnar and Will.

Chicago Fire (10pm, NBC) - Severide pushes back in the criminal case against him, antagonizing Chief Boden and gaining an unlikely ally in the process.

What to Watch on Wednesday: HBO doc tells the story of Bin Laden 'Manhunt'

Nature: Legendary White Stallions (8pm, UNC-TV) - The history of the Lipizzaner stallion is chronicled. Included in the story is their little known rescue by the U.S. Army in 1945.

Manhunt (8pm, HBO) - A two-hour documentary examining how the CIA successfully found Osama bin Laden after hunting him for nearly a decade. Features testimonials from CIA analysts, targeters and operatives who tracked Bin Laden for nearly two decades, turning years of careful intelligence into action on May 1, 2011.

Family Tools (8:30pm, ABC) - In the series premiere, a father takes ill and his prodigal screw-up son returns home to take over the family fix-it business. What do I think? It's pretty silly. Read my full review of "Family Tools."

The Americans (10pm, FX) - In the first season finale, Philip and Elizabeth are ordered to attend a potentially dangerous meeting, while Stan closes in on them.

Secrets of the Dead: Bugging Hitler's Soldiers (10pm, UNC-TV) - The thoughts and opinions of German POWs during World War II are revealed in this installment, which relies on transcripts from an MI19 (British military intelligence) bugging operation that secretly recorded the conversations of 4000 German prisoners.

Chicago Fire (10pm, NBC) - A former paramedic candidate accuses Severide of sexual misconduct, and Det. Voight returns to collect on a favor that Dawson owes him.

What to Watch on Wednesday: New sitcom, new reality show mix young and old

The Middle (8pm, ABC) - The season finale of "The Bachelor" disheartens Frankie, so she sulks about it for several days.

Nature: What Plants Talk About (8pm, UNC-TV) - Ecologist J.C. Cahill leads this look at plants, which he contends are as busy and complex as humans. He explains how they "talk" to allies, eavesdrop on one another and call in mercenaries to protect them.

How to Live with Your Parents (For the Rest of Your Life) (9:30pm, ABC) - This new sitcom will be lucky if from here on out I type "How to Live With Your Parents," because how obnoxious is that long title?? Anyway, this overly titled new sitcom has a young single mom (Sarah Chalke) moving back home to live with her eccentric parents (Elizabeth Perkins and Brad Garrett). I'm not a fan of the voice-over narration, but it has some funny bits.

Southland (10pm, TNT) - Gangsters emerge for the funeral of a high-level drug dealer, leading to chaos on the streets. Meanwhile, Lydia and Ruben unearth police corruption while probing a murder, and Ben has suspicions about Sammy.

Forever Young (10pm, TV Land) - A new reality series that makes housemates of five people over 70 and five twentysomethings, and chronicles what they can -- and can't -- learn from one another. Adrienne likes it. Here's her review of "Forever Young."

The Americans (10pm, FX) - A routine mission goes sideways for Philip and Elizabeth. Meanwhile, an FBI agent disappears.

Chicago Fire (10pm, NBC) - Despite Severide's support, Mills faces resentment from his colleagues about his desire to join Squad.

CSI (10pm, CBS) - A body is discovered near a forest reserve and the investigation leads the CSIs to uncover what may be a serial killer's secret.

What to Watch on Wednesday: Season premiere of 'Survivor,' but about that...

Arrow (8pm, CW) - Oliver is shot and turns to Felicity for help. While he hovers between life and death, Oliver recalls a daring escape attempt with Slade Wilson on the island.

Nature: Cold Warriors - Wolves and Buffalo (8pm, UNC-TV) - Forget what's going on in Durham later. This Nature documentary explores the fierce hunting skills of the wolf pack as they stalk their crafty prey (in this case, the buffalo).

Survivor: Caramoan - Fans vs. Favorites (8pm, WRAL) and College Basketball: Carolina at Duke (9pm, WRAL) - The battle of the blues means no new "CSI" at 10pm and an abbreviated season premiere of "Survivor: Caramoan - Fans vs. Favorites" at 8. The "Survivor" premiere runs 90 minutes, so here are your options: You can watch the first hour at 8 and then record the last half hour at 2 a.m on WRAL, or you can watch the full 90-minute "Survivor" on WRAL2 (5.2 or TWC 106) at the regular 8 p.m. airtime. "Big Bang Theory" (a repeat) will air at 2:30 a.m. on WRAL and the new "CSI" will air on WRAL at 3 a.m. You can also watch tomorrow on CBS.com. There's more information about the scheduling at WRAL.

Modern Family (9pm, ABC) - Mitchell and Cameron throw a wild Valentine's party that leaves them wondering what happened the night before and why Dylan is their new housemate.

Nova: Earth From Space (9pm, UNC-TV) - A two-hour look at how satellite data is transformed into visual sequences that detail the interwoven forces that sustain life on Earth.

Southland (10pm, TNT) - Season 5 (of one of the greatest dramas on television) opens with John at odds with his new trainee, a veteran from Afghanistan. Meanwhile, Lydia tries to juggle motherhood and detective work, Ben associates with a shady band of cops, and Sammy gets caught up in a nightmarish custody battle.

The Americans (10pm, FX) - Stan investigates Robert's death, while Philip and Elizabeth discover that Robert had a wife they never knew about.

What to Watch on Wednesday: Controversial casting of Mike Tyson on 'L&O: SVU'

Nature (8pm, UNC-TV) - The conclusion of the David Attenborough series of episodes focuses on the impact of humans on the natural world during his lifetime, which includes diminishing numbers of rain forests and coral reefs and increasing numbers of endangered species such as the blue whale and the chimpanzee.

The Neighbors (8:30pm, ABC) - Debbie gives relationship advice to Reggie Jackson when he starts dating a nerdy girl, but his parents cant believe he has romantic interests at all.

Law & Order: SVU (9pm, NBC) - Benson (Mariska Hargitay) discovers that a death-row inmate (Mike Tyson) was the victim of a sexual predator, so she asks Bayard Ellis to reopen the prisoner's murder case. (Note: Hargitay's Joyful Heart Foundation, which helps victims of sexual abuse, was not overjoyed about the casting of convicted rapist Tyson).

Modern Family (9pm, ABC) - Cameron's school production of "Phantom of the Opera" is in jeopardy when the star gets sick, but Manny has a plan to save the show.

The Americans (10pm, FX) - Philip and Elizabeth risk exposure while planting a bug in defense secretary Casper Weinberger's office.

60 Minutes Sports (10pm, Showtime) - Included tonight, a behind-the-scenes look at the NFL control room when the lights went out in the Superdome during Sunday night's Super Bowl game.

Life on Fire (10pm, UNC-TV) - The series finale travels to the Tonga archipelago in the South Pacific, where tectonic movements can construct or swallow islands.

What to Watch on Wednesday: An FX spy drama and 'Nova' on the Lindbergh baby

Arrow (8pm, CW) - Thea is arrested when she is caught with a drug called Vertigo and could face time in prison. Oliver tries to help by searching for the dealer.

Nature: Attenborough's Life Stories (8pm, UNC-TV) - Part 2 of 3 of this documentary on the career of David Attenborough. Tonight, Attenborough recalls the scientists and the breakthroughs that helped shape his career.

The Neighbors (8:30pm, ABC) - A competition between the Weavers and the Bird-Kersees for a membership at a new country club comes to a head at an open house for prospective members.

Nova: Who Killed Lindbergh's Baby? (9pm, UNC-TV) - The 1932 kidnapping and killing of Charles Lindbergh's 20-month-old son is revisited. Investigators use forensic and behavioral science techniques in an effort to learn what happened to the baby -- and why.

Suburgatory (9:30pm, ABC) - Dallas' dog becomes depressed so she calls on her former flame to cure her, but George suspects Yoni wants to rekindle the relationship.

The Americans (10pm, FX) - A smart new drama in which two KGB spies pose as an American married couple living in Washington, D.C., in the early 1980s. In the opening episode, an FBI agent moves in across the street from the spies and their two kids. It stars Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys. Here's my full review of "The Americans."

Chicago Fire (10pm, NBC) - Chief Boden goes to the police after the teenage arsonist starts a deadly hardware store fire. Meanwhile, Severide reaches out to his father after making a decision about his future, and Otis works a few shifts at a slow firehouse.

What to Watch on Wednesday: Cat fights and McCreery on 'American Idol'

Big Rich Atlanta (8pm, Style) - Another reality show set in Atlanta. Adrienne has the details.

American Idol (8pm, Fox) - Footage from the Charlotte (well, Concord) auditions is on tap tonight, and so is a bit of the nasty fighting between Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey that we've been hearing about for months now. The North Carolina audition, which took place at the Charlotte Motor Speedway in Concord, is where the two judges had their infamous, profanity-laced spat. Also, even more importantly, Garner's own Scotty McCreery, the 2011 "American Idol" winner, stops by the auditions to wish the young singers luck. If you're going to watch one "Idol" this season, this is the one.

Nature: Attenborough's Life Stories - Life on Camera (8pm, UNC-TV) - In part one of a three-part "Nature" special, wildlife filmmaker David Attenborough revisits key places and events from his 60-year career. He also reflects on how technological breakthroughs have increased the understanding of the natural world, including advancements in underwater photography, the invention of infrared films, remote control cameras, time-lapse photography and digital slow-motion cameras.

Kimora: House of Fab (9pm, Style) - In this new series, Kimora Lee Simmons becomes president and creative director of the online fashion company JustFab. Adrienne reviews.

Suburgatory (9:30pm, ABC) - George needs some space when Dallas is overenthusiastic about his business, so he persuades Noah and Fred to start a band just for guys, but George breaks his own rule after he hears Sheila sing.

American Horror Story (10pm, FX) - In the season finale, Johnny (Bloody Face Jr.) aims to complete his father's work by murdering his mother. Meanwhile, Lana attempts to shut down Briarcliff.

Necessary Roughness (10pm, USA) - The second half of the season starts with Dani seeing a therapist (Peter MacNicol) in order to get her own career back on track. Also, TK returns to the Hawks but finds that another player has taken his position.

What to Watch on Wednesday: Houston family reality and a 'Modern Family' halloween

NC Gubernatorial Debate (7pm) - Tonight's debate will air live on WRAL, UNC-TV and C-SPAN2.

Arrow (8pm, CW) - Assassin Deadshot kills one of Oliver's targets and then sets his sights on gunning down Walter. To stop him, Oliver enlists the help of Det. Lance, but his plan leads to dire consequences.

Nature: Magic of the Snowy Owl (8pm, UNC-TV) - Chronicling the efforts of a pair of snowy owls to raise their young during the 82-day summer season in the Arctic. When the father owl is forced to travel farther than normal to find food, the owls move their nest, embarking on an odyssey that takes them across a river, which forces the young owlets to swim. This better not have a sad ending.

Modern Family (9pm, ABC) - When the Dunphys' neighbors find Claire's annual Halloween extravaganza inappropriate, Phil suggests having an open house for the holiday. Meanwhile, Mitchell and Cameron host a costume party, but must also field questions from Lily about her birth mom.

The Houstons: On Our Own (9pm, Lifetime) - In the opener of this new series following Whitney Houston's family in the aftermath of the singer's death, the family comes together for Mother's Day. In a 9:30 episode, Pat becomes concerned about Bobbi Kristina's choices and the amount of time she's spending with Nick. Adrienne reviews.

Nashville (10pm, ABC) - Rayna focuses on her family and discovers the depth of the financial problems she and Teddy face, while Juliette tries to tempt Deacon with a contract offer. Also, Juliette's mom comes back into her life.

American Horror Story: Asylum (10pm, FX) - An exorcist visits Briarcliff to help a troubled boy, and Sister Jude reveals a disturbing secret.

Chicago Fire (10pm, NBC) - Casey faces pressure to cover for a cop's son, who was responsible for a drunken-driving accident that left a teenager paralyzed. Meanwhile, Severide ignores his doctor's warnings that his neck injury may never heal if he doesn't seek treatment.

What to Watch on Wednesday: 'Nashville' and 'Chicago Fire' among big premieres

Arrow (8pm, CW) - A new drama about a billionaire playboy, Oliver Queen, who becomes a vigilante after being shipwrecked for five years on a remote island. In tonight's pilot, Oliver is rescued and creates the persona of Arrow, an expert archer determined to fight evil in his beloved city. Adrienne reviews.

Nature: Siberian Tiger Quest (8pm, UNC-TV) - In the Season 31 premiere, biolgist Chris Morgan travels to the forests of eastern Russia to meet wildlife filmmaker Sooyong Park, who recorded endangered Siberian tigers in their natural habitat.

Nova: Secrets of the Viking Sword (9pm, UNC-TV) - In the Season 40 premiere, the secrets behind the design and construction of the Vikings' Ulfberht sword, which was made between A.D. 800-1000.

Modern Family (9pm, ABC) - Two new episodes tonight. In the first, Lily's first day at kindergarten is marred by a scuffle with a little boy, which results in a confrontation for Mitchell and Cameron with the boy's lesbian parents. In the second episode, Phil goes in for a vasectomy, and Jay and Gloria debate the merits of learning their baby's gender. Why two episodes tonight? To give the best possible lead-in for ABC's new drama, "Nashville." Which you should totally watch.

Nashville (10pm, ABC) - In this excellent new ABC drama, country music legend Rayna (Connie Britton, right) fights to stay in the spotlight while a younger singer tries to usurp her power. In tonight's premiere episode, Rayna's record label asks her to open for the rising star, Juliette Barnes (Hayden Panettiere, right). Full review.

Chicago Fire (10pm, NBC) - From "Law & Order" creator Dick Wolf, a new drama following the firefighters, paramedics and rescue squad of Chicago Firehouse 51. Tonight, a fire claims the life of a team member, and firefighters point fingers at one another. Adrienne reviews.

Nova scienceNow (10pm, UNC-TV) - Season 6 has David Pogue examining the evolutionary roots of those traits that separate humans from other species, and also investigating what may have happened to Neanderthals.

Paranormal Witness (10pm, Syfy) - In North Carolina, a man claims to have seen an apparition of a red-haired girl running across his backyard. Also, a creature with 14-inch feet is tracked to a cabin in the woods of Ohio.
