Ebay limits sale of coupons

Ebay has announced this week it is taking steps to limit the sale of coupons on its online auction site, presumably to take itself out of the controversy in recent years over counterfeit coupons.

As of September, Ebay will limit sales "up to $100 or 25 valid, unexpired, original coupons per month," the company said in a prepared statement.

Ebay is also prohibiting the sale of coupons for entirely free items, which are often the emphasis of coupon counterfeiters.

The limits will, in effect, shut down or severely limit the listings of dozens of Ebay coupon sellers, who have flourished in recent years.
