"Mad Men" Season 4 poster unveiled

Entertainment Weekly has a first look at the poster for Season 4 of "Mad Men" on AMC (season premiere July 25). The poster definitely delivers the message of "fresh start."

AMC airs new drama "Rubicon" after "Breaking Bad" finale

According to several published reports, AMC is giving us a sneak peek at their new drama "Rubicon" tonight after the "Breaking Bad" Season 3 finale. All you really need to know about "Rubicon" is that it comes from the same network that brings you "Breaking Bad" and "Mad Men," arguably the two best dramas on television.

"Rubicon" stars James Badge Dale, "Leckie" from HBO's "The Pacific" (who looks to me like he could play a young Bill Clinton). Dale plays a think-tank analyst who uncovers a conspiracy involving big government and big business. It also stars Miranda Richardson from "Harry Potter" and Peter Gerety, who has been in everything from "Homicide: Life on the Streets" and "The Wire" to "Brothers & Sisters."

January Jones car crash: Drunk and arguing with Bobby Flay?

TV Guide reports that January Jones, who plays Betty Draper on AMC's "Mad Men," crashed her car into three parked cars while being followed by photographers last night in Los Angeles.

Jones was unhurt, but left the scene briefly to escape reporters (she says) and to call 911, but then returned. She was not cited or arrested by police, and according to TV Guide, the police report did not indicate evidence of alcohol or drugs.

UPDATE: HollywoodScoop.com has witnesses to the accident who say Jones "smelled like a brewery" when she got out of her wrecked car. They also report that Food Network star Bobby Flay arrived at the scene right after the crash, argued with Jones and took away her ID before leaving. Apparently, Jones had been drinking with Flay at the London hotel earlier that evening. As for Jones' claims that she crashed because she was pursued by paparazzi, the lack of photographs of the accident scene seem to cast doubt on that.

"Mad Men" for the Barbie set

I'm a big fan of "Mad Men" and a big fan of Barbie from way back, so I really like this concept of a line of Barbie dolls based on the show.

What I have a problem with is the Joan doll. Come on, Mattel. Your one great chance to make a Barbie with more full-figure proportions and you punk out? Well, I guess that's fair since the Draper dolls do not carry an expression of shame.

I do wish the Roger Sterling doll came with a string in his back so he could repeat some of his awesome one-liners.

The New York Times reports that the collectible dolls ($75 each!) come with accessories like hats, pearls, overcoats, and padded undergarments (for Joan?), but no cigarettes or martini glasses.

Verdict on Jon Hamm's SNL show: Excellent!

Whaddaya know. Last night's "Saturday Night Live" was about as solid as any complete episode I've seen in ages. I believe in my soul that Jon Hamm was working extra hard to make up for the god-awful hosting job by his "Mad Men" co-star January Jones.

Hamm's opening monologue had him reviewing some of the projects from early in his career, from lame teen sitcoms to a QVC stint and even a performance on Def Comedy Jam. The joke being that he pretty much played Don Draper in all those shows, even as he delivered the punchline from a dirty Redd Foxx stand-up bit.

Other favorites had Hamm as Scott Brown, the distractingly hot new Senator from Massachusetts, and Hamm in a commercial with musical guest Michael Bublé hawking their new joint venture, the "Hamm and Bublé" (pronounced bubbly) restaurant.

Check out some of the clips below.

Now we know for sure. Betty Draper is not funny.

After last week's surprisingly funny "Saturday Night Live" with guest host Taylor Swift, I was cautiously optimistic about last night's show with host January Jones, who is pitch-perfect as Betty Draper on AMC's "Mad Men."

But now we all know Jones needs to stick to drama, especially when performing live. Jones was stiff and unfunny in all of her live sketches, occasionally unable even to read her cue cards without fumbling. To be fair, at least half the problem (as usual) was the writing.

Jones was funny in one digital short sketch, which played off her famous Betty Draper role. The bit was cleverly written and comfortable 1960s territory for Jones.

Watch Jones guide you through how to host the perfect cocktail party:

What to Watch on Saturday: January Jones and Black Eyed Peas on SNL

Everything She Ever Wanted (8pm, LMN) - Lifetime Movie Network's adaptation of this Ann Rule book is something else. Adrienne calls it "maybe the best Lifetime Movie ever!" Read her full review and tune in (tonight is part one of two parts). Stars Gina Gershon.

Wanda Sykes Show (11pm, Fox) - As of Friday night, Wanda's website had no info about her guests this week. We're watching anyway and hoping it's better than last week's spotty debut.

Saturday Night Live (11:30pm, NBC) - Last week's solid show makes me hopeful. Tonight's guest host is January Jones (right), who plays the cold-as-ice Betty Draper on "Mad Men." Musical guest, Black Eyed Peas. Sounds promising. Don't let me down, SNL.

Austin City Limits (12:30, UNC-TV) - Willie Nelson and Asleep at the Wheel perform songs from their 2009 album, "Willie and the Wheel."

Matthew Weiner on the "Mad Men" finale and what's ahead

Jace Lacob from The Daily Beast website got an exclusive interview with "Mad Men" creator and executive producer Matthew Weiner after the show's outstanding season 3 finale this past weekend.

Some of the highlights:

-Weiner says "I don't know" when asked if we'll see more of Paul, Ken, and Sal. (We want Sal! We want Sal!)

The "Mad Men" finale: Shut the door. Have a seat.

Sitting down to write something about last night's brilliant "Mad Men" season finale, I realize there's no way I can produce anything nearly as comprehensive as some of the fantastic reviews I've already read. So I'm going to be brief and point you to a couple of my favorite recaps:

-Alan Sepinwall at the New Jersey Star Ledger has the best recap/analysis that I've read so far. As a coworker here pointed out recently, "he's a machine." It's a terrific read.

-Also, take at look at Maureen Ryan's piece for the Chicago Tribune. In addition to a nice recap, she compiled a wonderful list of all the funny quips from last night's show. Just reading over that again will put a smile on your face. And feel free to share your favorite "Mad Men" article in the comments section below.

Now, for a few very brief thoughts... (Spoilers ahead!!)

"Mad Men" finale predictions from a show expert

Tonight is the much anticipated season three finale of "Mad Men" and there are so many issues to resolve. Will Betty leave Don? If so, will she leave behind those children she can barely stand? Will Peggy and/or Pete fly the coop for Duck's shop? What about Sal -- is he coming back, or still trolling around that park? Most importantly, how do we get Joan back front and center?

Heck, we don't know. "Mad Men" is a complex show and Matthew Weiner is a crafty dude. That's why we asked "Mad Men" expert Jesse McLean. McLean is a pop culture writer and author of "The Kings of Madison Avenue: The Unofficial Guide to Mad Men."

We asked McLean for predictions and also about how he feels the show deals with issues like family and race. He told us why he thinks family life is portrayed in such a depressing light, and why Joan makes him feel good.
