Jack Ratz Jr. Memorial Golf Tournament adds July 25 bonus event

Early entrants for the Aug. 1 main event at Wildwood Green Golf Club in North Raleigh also can golf for free in a July 25 pre-tournament tournament that starts at 11 a.m. A box lunch will be served after the round.
Hocker, Lavenets shoot well in HS Invitational
Submitted by ewarnock on 04/05/2011 - 15:05Riverside junior Michael Hocker II carded a 78 Monday at tricky Treyburn Country Club to tie for sixth in the fifth annual N.C. High School Invitational golf tournament.
Hocker, who plays out of nearby Croasdaile Country Club, carded 38 on the front and 40 after the turn at Treyburn.
Stephen Lavenets Jr. of Northern High School, who was junior co-medalist in last year’s Herald-Sun Golf Classic, tied for 14th with an 81.
Led by NCHSAA 2010 4-A medalist Grayson Murray, Raleigh Leesville Road won the team championship with a total of 313. That was 12 strokes better than runnerup Gastonia Forestview (325). Raleigh Broughton (334) was third, followed by Christ School of Arden (337) and Westchester Academy of High Point (337) to round out the top five.
Trinity School of Durham (354) was 10th.
Murray shot 37-36—73 to win medalist honors Monday.
Burlington freshman William Register, junior Jonathan Diianni of High Point and sophomore Zach Seabolt of Raleigh all tied for second with 77s.
Hoke wins playoff for Jack Ratz Jr. Memorial Golf Tournament title
Submitted by teribb on 08/16/2010 - 02:00David Hoke of Jamestown won a playoff against Andrew Furr of Clayton to take first place in the boys 16-18 division at the 21st annual Jack Ratz Jr. Memorial Golf Tournament on Aug. 9 at the Wildwood Green Golf Club in North Raleigh.
Each year, the tournament produces a $1,000 donation to the Cardinal Gibbons High School Scholarship Fund in honor of the winners and in memory of Ratz, who was a club member and a Gibbons freshman when he died in a 1988 car accident at age 15.
Nagy wins Jack Ratz Jr. Memorial Golf Tournament
Submitted by teribb on 08/09/2009 - 19:47Ryan Nagy of Raleigh shot a 6-under-par 64 to win the 20th annual Jack Ratz Jr. Memorial Golf Tournament played Aug. 3 at the Wildwood Green Golf Club in North Raleigh.
Seventy-five junior golfers turned out for the annual privately
sponsored tournament, which is conducted by the Ratz family to promote
teenage-driver safety. Proceeds from the event are used to fund the
Cardinal Gibbons High School Scholarship Fund in the memory of Jack
Ratz Jr., who was a Wildwood Green member and a 15-year-old Cardinal
Gibbons freshman when he died in a car accident in 1988.
In the girls 16-18 Division, Katie Yelle of Raleigh and Jeda Borek of
Raleigh each shot a 77, and Yelle won the playoff. (A list of top
finishers in each division is below.)
Area juniors advance to Golf Pride Junior Classic in Southern Pines

As junior golfers from around the nation are being introduced to some
of the Pinehurst region's outstanding courses this week, a golfer
already acquainted with the layouts has put his local knowledge to
work.
Zachary Martin of Pinehurst combined great putting with course
familiarity to win the 88-player Boys Division of Sunday's K12
qualifying tournament for this week's Golf Pride Junior Classic, which runs Tuesday through Thursday at Pine Needles Lodge and Golf Club in Southern Pines.
The 18-hole stroke-play qualifying event, conducted by the American Junior Golf Association, was played at the Mid Pines Inn and Golf Club at Southern Pines.
