Time Warner Cable launches app for Android Tablet

Time Warner Cable announced yesterday a new app for Android tablet customers that gives them the ability to program their DVR, add favorite channels and use their tablet as a remote control.

The Time Warner Cable press release said the app is available to all customers with set-top boxes or DVRs running the Time Warner Cable “Navigator” interactive program guide.

The app is designed to run on any Honeycomb (Android 3.x) tablet and is certified to run on the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 or Motorola Xoom. Customers can get the TWC TV 1.0 from the Android Market and log in to their TWC account from there.

Time Warner Cable introduced an iPad app in March of 2011 that lets TWC customers stream TV shows over their iPad.

Time Warner Cable wants court ruling on iPad channels

Time Warner Cable isn't giving up their iPad app channels without a fight.

The cable company filed a request for declaratory judgment today in a New York federal court, seeking a ruling that they have the right to stream Viacom programming to cable customers in their own homes.

Viacom responded that it had sued Time Warner Cable for breach of contract and copyright violation. Get all the details at MultichannelNews.com.

Cablevision introduces streaming TV iPad app

Cablevision has officially entered the market with a pretty astonishing iPad app -- one that offers 300 channels and video on demand.

There is no Cablevision service here locally, so we can't get it.

BUT it is interesting that there do not seem to be any legal skirmishes over this app because Cablevision apparently has the right to distribute programming over its cable system to iPads under existing distribution agreements with programming providers. Those providers are currently fighting with Time Warner Cable, who are also streaming content for their customers via an iPad app.

Stay tuned.
