Spring baseball, softball registration starting soon around Triangle

Winter started barely two weeks ago, but it's already time to count down to when pitchers and catchers report.

And that means parents planning to sign up children for spring baseball and softball leagues should plan now. Some area leagues fill up fast, and registration deadlines will arrive long before warm weather does.

To find leagues in numerous sports and instruction for all ages, check the Play! Recreational Sports Calendar regularly. The online version of the calendar is updated weekly, and the print version appears each Tuesday in the Sports section.

Outstanding college players and coaches will lead youth baseball clinic

Free stuff is good, and a baseball game ticket and a complimentary
glove from Rawlings await the first 100 registrants for a May 22 youth
baseball clinic in Cary.

Players ages 8-14 will receive instruction from some of the nation's
best college players and coaches.

Leading the camp will be Mount Olive
College coach Carl Lancaster, who guided the Trojans to the 2008 NCAA
Division II championship and was the American Baseball Coaches
Association's national coach of the year.

Olympic gold-medalist Peter Vanderkaay will conduct clinic for Triangle swimmers

Peter Vanderkaay, who won gold medals on the 800 freestyle relay teams at the Athens Olympics and the Beijing Olympics, will visit Raleigh for the clinic on April 17.
He will instruct swimmers during the Speedo Olympic Swim Clinic being held 9-11 a.m. at N.C. State's Willis Casey Natatorium.

Classes and camp can help young wrestlers learn the moves

Triangle athletes have a great chance to learn from a member of wrestling's Cesari family.

Former N.C. State standout Joe Cesari, son of the iconic Pennsylvania
high school coach by the same name, offers camps and instruction
through the Capital City Wrestling Club.

The younger Joe Cesari is the program director of the Capital City
Wrestling Club and its AAU youth wrestling program. The North Raleigh
club has 68 wrestlers in kindergarten through eighth grade.
