Marshall's scaphoid fracture puts damper on Heels' 87-73 win over Creighton

GREENSBORO — In the moments before everything changed, North Carolina celebrated its 87-73 victory against Creighton at the Greensboro Coliseum on Sunday night in the third round of the NCAA tournament Midwest regional.

The Tar Heels (31-5), the top seed in the Midwest, spoke with pride and confidence about going to St. Louis later this week for the regional semifinals. They spoke with a sense of accomplishment after a thorough beating of the No. 8 Bluejays (29-6) – a victory that represented one of UNC’s most complete performances of the season.

John Henson, the UNC junior forward, spoke with resolve after returning from a wrist injury, and across the locker room P.J. Hairston, the freshman, was describing why the Heels’ 3-point defense had been so successful against Creighton, one of the nation’s best 3-point shooting teams.

State's workplace injuries at all-time low

North Carolina's workplace injury rate remained at a record low in 2010, down by nearly half in the past decade as negligence lawsuits, insurance premiums and training programs pressure employers to improve safety.

Last year the injury rate was 3.1 cases per 100 full-time workers, one of the four lowest rates in the nation, according to data issued today by the N.C. Department of Labor.

The agency defines injury as an accident that results in unconsciousness, restriction of physical motion or restriction of the kind of work the injured employee can perform.

Only Louisiana, Texas and New York have lower workplace injury rates than North Carolina. Those states all had a rate of 2.7 in 2010.

Duke injury report; RB Re'quan Boyette out

Duke released its injury report on Thursday and senior running back Re'quan Boyette is out for Saturday's game against N.C. Central at Wallace Wade Stadium.

Boyette, who has a leg injury, played sparingly last week against Kansas and missed all of last season after injuring his knee before the start of the season.

The Devils have elevated freshman Desmond Scott for Saturday's game. He was a member of the third team practice squad for the Devils' first three games this season and will mix in the first and second team rotation.

Roy Williams responds

Hear UNC coach Roy Williams respond to a question at his press conference about injury comments by Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski.
