Geneva Motor Show preview

The Geneva Motor Show has kicked off and you can see tons of photos in my preview gallery. One of the most interesting appearances will be the Aston Martin V12 Zagato which makes noise that sounds so wrong feel so good.

There is an impressive arsenal of hardware from the likes of Ferrari and Lamborghini, and some even more exotic -like the Alfa Romeo based Carrozzeria pictured above. Greener motoring will also be a big theme in this years show with more hybrids and electric vehicles.

NC nation's 4th biggest employer of efficient auto parts

This state has 19 facilities employing 10,226 people, according to a study issued today by the UAW union and environmental organizations.

The groups are drawing attention to clean car jobs to generate support for stricter fuel efficiency standards. Their message is that cleaner cars are good for the economy. President Obama and the auto industry have agreed to increasing the standard to 54.5 miles per gallon by model year 2025.

The report does not name the 19 facilities in North Carolina that make components for efficient cars, but some are listed on a web site related to the report. Only three states have more employees in the field: Michigan (38,067), Ohio (13,753) and Indiana (11,819).

Facilities in this state include Aisin in Durham, ABB in Cary, Eaton in Roxboro, Umicore Autocat USA in Raleigh, Cree in Durham, Tec-cel in Cary and Magneti Marrelli in Sanford.
