Another Murdock, another MCHS record

Just one day after her fraternal twin sister broke the school's career assists record, Brittany Murdock broke Middle Creek's career record for 3-pointers. Both sisters are in their fourth season on the Lady Mustangs' varsity roster.

Murdock breaks MC record for career assists

Middle Creek senior Casey Murdock (pictured above, No. 5 in red) broke the school's career assist mark last night in a 62-42 win over Fuquay-Varina.

Murdock has 160 and counting, breaking Kristi Gardner's old mark of 156. Murdock, a four-year varsity point guard, has 29 through 13 games.

Area girls basketball standings

Greater Neuse leaders East Wake and Southeast Raleigh play tonight in girls basketball. Millbrook and Enloe share Cap Eight lead. Green Hope tops Tri-Nine.

N&O girls basketball rankings

Green Hope, the state 4-A runner-up in 2010, is No. 1 in The News & Observer high school girls basketball rankings.

The Falcons have lost two games in the past two seasons, both to 2010 4-A champion Matthews Butler.

Millbrook, the GlaxoSmithKline Invitational girls champion, is second in the rankings.

Southeast Raleigh, which is No. 3, plays at No. 5 East Wake on Tuesday, Jan. 4.

Cary girls win Chatlee Shootout

The only team from the Tri-Nine, boys or girls, to enter a holiday tournament and come out a champion was the Cary High girls basketball team.

On the Recruiting Front: Dukes' big week garnering interest

Dakota Dukes, junior, Cary Christian girls basketball

Dakota Dukes is nearing 2,000 points in her career at Cary Christian, but she was relatively unknown in the area prior to last week's 2010 girls GlaxoSmithKline Holiday Invitational.

Dukes was already well-known to college recruiters, however. According to her coach Carmen Javaux, Dukes is being recruited by Elon, Western Carolina and Princeton, among others.

On the Recruiting Front: Bursey has her options

UNC-Chapel Hill head coach Sylvia Hatchell saw Ariel Bursey's first game in last week's girls GlaxoSmithKline Holiday Invitational. Bursey's older sister, Trinity, played for Hatchell at UNC.

But UNC is not one of the schools Bursey is likely to go to. The senior is considering South Carolina, Campbell, UNC-Greensboro and East Carolina.

Girls GSK records, points, All-Glaxo teams

Several girls GlaxoSmithKline Holiday Invitational records fell this week, which was to be expected when doubling the field size.
